Btw, regarding this topic, I've found it very informative too so Soundpalace, the original thread author, would you mind changing the name of the topic to something more informative? A lot of people might skip this thread because of the name or not read it further.

Either you used the example 3 from the tube compressor as a base for your example or then you've got a plugin that does a nearly perfect match to a home built tube compressor. A cookie or a "bad bad boy".. which is it? You'll get a cookie in exchange for the preset used.

What is it? Something you made? This sounds amazingly good for a plugin. Come on, please tell us more ...

I followed the rules... used your original sample... along with my favorite compressor for drums! just A/B'ed it til sounded close to example #3.

and it is....

Neodynium is the best compressor I've ever found for drums. Unconventional, but easy to get your head around... with great results imho.

Good Work ModuLR, downloading the Neodynium demo right now, again (I did try it when it came out and remeber liking it but had no need for another compressor back then!). Could you save that preset and post it here or PM me, or are those settings in the picture the exact ones you used?

the picture is exactly what I used... but here is the preset (fxp). I was just kinda noodling around with it. There were other versions that I thought might have been even closer, but I kept fiddling around and eventually stopped with this one.

It's really amazing how close you got it. I just ran your preset and neodynium demo at 96khz and tweaked the compression a tiny bit and now it's nearly impossible to hear the difference! With headphones I hear a very slight tonality difference but the compression action itself is 99% there. This is truly remarkable considering neodynium is 149$ and that tube compressor costs nearly 3000$ to build.

Now I'm sure that if I try fiddling with adding voxengo warmifier or lampthruster or something similar after or before the compressor we can get so close that I might be able to trick the dude who built the real deal!! This I will try to do.. guess the look on his face when he picks the plugin from his own little darling!

yes, I also tried the demo now and this thing is really nice. If you sned another 30 USD you get the nedynium/Equium bundle so this is put on my shopping list.

I've been playing with the neodynium demo now for about an hour but have failed to emulate the Example 1 and 2 of the tube compressor.

It seems like heavy compression is a bit harder to mimic. ModuLR, any luck with those?

Here's how far I've got by using neodynium + secret ingredient (sorry can't talk about this yet I think):

My approximation of the above

As you can hear there are some problems in getting the transients right, the snare sound much fuller and has more punch in the tube example and I fail to get this perfect (ModuLR's version of example 3 suffers a bit from this too but much less than this).

ModuLR - I have Neodynium and have been trying for some time to get my head around that thing - would you be willing to comment on a few of the settings - particularly how you chose the zones and setting for the zones. Also I guess you mostly did it by ear not necessarily depending on the metering?

This is by far the hardest compressor I have so either I'm taking the wrong approach, am ignorant, or something else that is blocking me here!

Anyone else with a pointer or 2 is welcome also!
