What is the best synth to use to make wind like sounds? Also, what settings should be used? Any help to get me started would be greatly appreciated.

My favourite method is to use a low pass filter with a touch of resonance on a noise oscillator. Gently sweep the cut off up and down to create gusts. Any subtractive synth with a white noise oscillator will do.

Hope this helps...

i agree with cron.

however if you want a more "organic" sound.. try eating a couple burritos.. then stick a micrphone to your rear-end and sample away.

Which muon synth has a white noise oscillator?

Use someone else's mic if you can though...

Another good technique is to use FM. A noise source as the modulator and a sine as the carier, as you increase the FM depth you will get a kind of pitched noise. The more you increase the depth the wider the bandwidth of the noise and the more noise les sine sound. If you can get a few of these in paralell with lfos slowly changing the pitch of the sines if will give it a bit more life.

DS404 is the only current Muon product that could do a wind sound, and you'd need to load it with a loop of some white noise and switch off the pitch tracking and then hit the filters as another poster suggested.

Speaking of pitch tracking, if anyone ever does load DS404 with a white noise sample, a fun thing to do is to use the peak filter with full resonance, cutoff to zero and keytrack to max. Then, when you play, the filter tracks the keyboard notes perfectly and you get this weird tuned-noise effect. Fun!
