I don't know why the eyeroll, though. ;) It's normal behaviour. In most hosts you can't even assign one device to control several tracks, never mind record in them. :P

However, there HAVE been FRs made to assign devices to multiple tracks. It's not a function that can't be done any number of other ways, but since it IS one more way of doing it that would be more intuitive for some people, I'm all for it.

Hi Gezzdoc--

Use the MIDI Note Range Filter at

http://www.niallmoody.com/ndcplugs/

(look under ndcMIDI in the left column)

Also, you gave SampleTank as your example. Version 2.1 (coming in a few days :hihi: ) will split and layer to your heart's content.

sure you can... - what sequencers do you think of? :?

Jens-- per-track input mode still only allows one instance of each input. Many of us would like to see it changed. I probably won't use it, (particularly not being a big MIDI guy; audio clips can just be copied as far as I care) but I'd like to see as many people's needs met as possible.

The plug-in I was going to suggest is the one SaviorNeeded suggested. You'll need 2 copies of it, though, or clever manipulation of a rack. (I'm not all that clever).

I tried Googling a simple 'splitter', but I didn't see one offhand. I'm sure one exists, though.

Hi Guys, went out for a bit. :D
Sometimes I just want to record once, and then independently manipulate what the left hand played from what the right hand played - eg add some strings to the right.
Essentially I can do it at the moment by copying the MIDI clip to a new track, and then as you say; wiping out all the treble info on one track, and all the bass info on the other. Sadly this is a bit tedious - especially since when you box all the MIDI events I want I want to delete and choose to delete them; traction (T2 by the way) always leaves a portion of the events so I end up repeating the process 3 or 4 times :smack:

Now a method of tricking your host into thinking I have 2 MIDI devices sound promising :phones: I'll check out MIDI-Ox & any other suggestions you have.

Good results with ndcMIDI so far :D :D

Jens, it's been so long since I used another host that I probably spoke without current information on how other hosts treat input devices. For that I apologize. I certainly don't have the energy to research it just to prove if I'm right or to realize that you're right. I'm fine with taking your word for it. ;)

If in, for example, Cubase or Sonar, you can take your MIDI device and assign it to multiple tracks for use at the same time, then its news to me, and good for them. Tracktion should allow you to do it, too. I've already said that it's a function that's kind of conspicuously lacking in Tracktion's otherwise intuitive way of assigning devices. A flaw, even. If you agree that it's a flaw, and I agree that it's a flaw, then we don't really need to debate about it. <chuckle>

Now, just show Gezz how you can split the keyboard and record each half of the split into separate tracks inside of eXT, and you'll maybe win Jorgen a new customer. ;)
