Ok. I record in SX at 24/48. In order to check a song I will sometimes mix down to wav, keeping it at 24/48.

What I would like to do then, is just click on the file and have it play through an app like Winamp, butWinamp cannot handle 24/48, and I therefore need to load up Soundforge. So, the question is, is there anything like Winamp that will handle 24/48?

PS. Yes, I know I could dither down during mixdown, but that defeats the object. I'm looking for a true progress report on my mix, so wish to keep at the working rates.(If that makes sense)

Pretty sure Foobar2000 supports 24bit files at any sampling rate.

Winamp can open 24/48 files. If you can't open them, then your soundcard doesn't support that format.

foobar2000 will do it. winamp will do it. you may want to find the asio output plugin for both players.

What version of WinAmp are you using? It must be ancient indeed, for 2. something or other (I've been WinAmping for quite a long time now...) was able to handle 24/48 just fine. At any rate (gratuitous pun intended), 5.08 most assuredly will work with such files. Perhaps an update or a re-install is in order.

My card is an audiophile 24/96. Maybe this output plug is what I need? Can anyone help? Not sure what I need here?

Winamp just uses the straight up Windows DirectSound drivers - you can't even use ASIO drivers AFAIK. It really should work...check what it says in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio tab. You may have to try a different setting in there. Or try a different player like XMPlay.

Ok sorted, directed Winamp to my Delta Asio driver. Fine now. Thanks all.
