Whats up...I am currently speaking with an r&b artist who is looking to purchase 1 or more instrumentals from me...She had indirectly mentioned $3000 for each as i would suppose that is the "going rate"...If anyone can share some light for me that would be appreciated...just curious as to how much other producers charge for their material...I dont necessarily want her to have the beat to her self after the purchase i would want rights afterwards so i take it i would have to write a contract...i am confused on whether there are contracts that i should buy or should i write it myself?...
any suggestion or info woule be very much appreciated

if she is offerng 3000 you might want to check she dosent want to own your work!!
if your stuff is copy written then thay need the contract not you (seeing as you can prove you own your work)
i would ask more questions as to what she wants
& hopfully somone with more experence will post after me with somthing more helpfull

Seems like a good deal.. Write a contract no matter what you do that`s my advice.
But as far as rights to the beat/instumental as djsubject said it`s yours no matter what. If she wants the rights to it SHE has to write a contract.

thanks vince...now shes trying to get her demo/album done to present to different labels...lets say i make a contract up now ,would i be able to ask for residuals even when shes not even signed...or would this happen afterwards when she inks a deal...id go on witht the sale but i dont wanna miss out on residuals if the material hits the radio...(i am registered with ascap if that means anything)

'Copy' is also what advertisers call text in graphical adds, which is where the term copy writer comes from. This has little to do with copyrights though.
