Wow, this is a great plugin. This is very similar to a lot of Reaktor patches friends and myself have made, but more stable and easy to use.
Three suggestions:
1) Either allow you to enter in your own values to some of the effect parameters, or increase the level of control. E.g. the flanger i'd like higher values and the retrigger i'd like to go even lower.
2) Needs a better way of controlling the parameters. This is a really powerful program, especially if you automate it. Right now there are so many parameters in glitch that trying to add them all in Cubase to my automatino list is just rediculous, so I ghave to stick with using Read/Write.
What would be even cooler is if you set up a second pattern sequencer for effects and also a draw box with pattern choices. The first would be for turning an effect on or off, and the second would be for drawing the values in over time. You'd be able to select from a drop down menu what parameter you wanted to automate over time and draw in the values.
3) If the pattern sequencer could automatically follow the host, that would be fantastic. I know the sequencer follows right now, but if you could set up a playlist like fruity loops, that would kick ass.
Getting really close to buying.
Also, am I just missing how to turn off an effect without having to solo another?

Great plugin, congrats dblue!
I like its tweakability - offering a lot of control, as well as the "randomization" options (on both the effects and the patterns) - for interesting surprises!
I'll try it out some more and probably buy it in the near future.
One comment in support of jason: I would also like to have the possibility to be able to turn the effects off individually - especially when "randomizing". Otherwise, great stuff!

Good suggestions, and I'm writing down all the stuff that's been mentioned. There are naturally some limitations in the way that I've designed and coded everything so far, some of it simply wasn't designed to do what people are suggesting and would require quite a bit of rewriting, but I will try to gradually implement smaller beneficial ideas wherever they're feasible.
Basically, aside from some small tweaks and a bit of fine-tuning in the overall useability, I consider the feature set of the current model - Glitch 1 - to be locked down. My main focus now is just stabilising the existing features as much as possible, get everything running nice and smoothly, do some final optimisations wherever I can, get it out of beta, etc.
Once things are as close to rock solid as I can get them I will take the core features and begin working on the next model - Glitch 2 (it'll have a new name but I haven't decided on anything yet). Everything people have said, all the ideas and suggestions, have helped me a lot in thinking about how Glitch 2 should work conceptually, and hopefully most of what didn't make it into Glitch 1 will be in Glitch 2.
At this point I don't want to get into any big discussions about Glitch 2 because I haven't even started on it yet. I don't wanna be too much of a tease or get people too excited over it either, since it could potentially take me another 3 or 4 months just to put together something basic and useable. But, I do just want to briefly say that I am planning to make Glitch 2 WAY more modular and flexible, kinda like Lego for sound mangling. I have a million new ideas which will hopefully make it much more fluid and expand the possibilites by a huge amount.

hey, don't listen to those whiners. they are just threatened that their "musical elitism" can now be had in a handy package. as if the quality of their music is defined by the exclusivity of the process rather than the emotional connection with the listener. well, in their case, it probably is. people whined when rebirth came out and made 303's available to everybody. just ignore them. i think glitch is brilliant and i plan to buy it once i can figure out how to convince my wife it's more important than new shoes for the babydblue wrote: A few people on other forums have been a bit quick to dismiss the plugin or, for whatever reason, ridicule and put me down for even creating it, even sometimes saying silly things like "this will be the death of IDM", etc., as if nobody has ever created anything even remotely similar before! Then there have been all the glitch/experimental music purists who have given me crap for even using the name "Glitch" in the first place.
btw i showed it to my housemate who is in marketing at apple's pro audio group and he really liked it too.

I guess you can make a point with GLITCH lasting longer than baby-shoes which get too small after a couple of days...

Hey dblue!
I hope you dont mind but I also asked this by PM.
I have a question please regarding Glitchvst having an adverse effect on Glitch standalone dos...
I went back to try the dos standalone for a change after many weeks of happily using the VST - everything processes VERY fast, in that it looks like stuff is happening but the rendered wav/wavs contain no sound... Ive tried thru command line and using the third party GUI with the same results.
Is there any reason please that installing the VST would mess up a previously working install of Glitch standalone?
I hope this is something obvious and fixable as I prefer the control and randomness offered by the standalone - Im at my wits end!!!
Thanks for your time.
All the best,
Dave

No. There's absolutely no reason the VST would affect the old commandline version.mckenic wrote:I hope you dont mind but I also asked this by PM.
The dos version is a bit limited in what it can do. Luckily I think I know exactly what is causing your problem. It can't handle .WAVs with any extra header information, including comments, copyright info, regions, etc. The way around it is to load the WAV into a sound editor like Soundforge then save it back out as a new file which is just the most basic PCM WAV format minus any extra info, then Glitch will usually be able to handle it after that.
I do hear what you're saying too. That old version definitely has a unique sound which in some ways I prefer to the VST. Some things simply can't be done in realtime so I did have to cut out some of the cool functions to get the VST working.
One of these days though I'm gonna rework the old version and optimise the code, give it a proper interface, etc. It will work the same (ie. not realtime) and will generate the same results, it'll just be a lot faster and friendlier.
Anyway, hope this helps.

I was wondering what big stuff I missed here in the last couple of months (my laptop was out for repairs, then I moved and had to wait for internet access)... now I know.
I officially can't wait to get home from work to try this out. ::glances around:: maybe I can sneak out early...

Been playing with this a little last couple of days, definately going to be sending you some money over the next few comming weeks (once my next pay check comes in)
Just a shame it's not MIDI configured. I would love to build something similar to the MidiBox64 on www.ucapps.de for controlling it, although at the moment I'm not doing truely live sets, so would have to be loops and Ableton, and with the range of tempos I use I could see it going out of sync from the way you have described it's operation.
Any thoughts on making it usable hands-on in a live situation more?

Not quite sure what you mean by this? I have actually included quite a lot of MIDI control, and with the upcoming v1.2.2 update (most likely released tomorrow or the day after) the MIDI controls will be extended a little further.kazakore wrote:Just a shame it's not MIDI configured.

Glitch v2 (not even started yet) will include a far more flexible MIDI setup, not to mention all kinds of other cool stuff, but it may be some months before I have any useable code for that.
As for the timing issue when used in songs/sessions which change BPM, I am aware of this and I recognise it as a potentially big problem, and I'm doing research/testing to hopefully get it figured out as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions which you'd like to see in future versions of the plugin.
