I there any DX/VST plugin which offers the same kind of filter models as in the Line 6 FM4 stompbox modeller? They include:
Mu-Tron III (Up Position)
Mu-Tron III (Down position)
Zvex Seek Wah
Oberheim VCF
Voice Box
V-Tron
Electrix Filter Factory
Spin Cycle
Comet Trails
Slow Filter
Octisynth
Moog, Oberheim, Sequential Circuits & ARP Synthesizers
Korg X911 Guitar Synth
Growler
Q Filter
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Probably a handfull of freebee filters (starting with Kjaerhues Autofilter) will be able to do at least 80% of what this Line6 thingamabob can do in that departement.
I also hope you do realise that names like "spin cycle", "comet trails" and "slow filter" are as descriptive as "filter preset 12" and "filter preset 15".

tripplead could do some of the guitar synth stuff probably. there's also antares kantos for that, but actually, i prefer tripplead AND it's free. it's around here: http://207.218.248.76/~fretted/

Yeah, should have edited that list down. Actually, an envelope filter and the triggered synth were the main ones I was looking for, so thanks for your suggestions.

Long-answer-long: You can do everything you want to do with FREE, absolutely free, vst hosts and free vst effects. The question is whether you want to spend the time on the learning curve of computer music, or whether you already know about it, or maybe you just want to play guitar in a live setting somewhere, and are merely looking for effects.
If you're playing live and don't want to drag your computer onstage, then for simplicity you might go with the Line 6 stompbox. Or you might do both if you're doing studio work and computer recording. The Line 6 will eliminate the need for a DI box, and you'll have access to jillions of VST effects and settings and even audio-to-midi converters to control some real cool synths.
If you can afford it then it's a no brainer: Do 'em both.

Ah yes, my original post lacked some info. I have been getting into VST's for a while now, trying to go pure software, in the interest of having a smaller setup and "culling the herd" gear-wise. I'm trying to get down to the most compact possible setup, and eventually onto a laptop. Mainly I'm home recording with SONAR. I own an FM4 and love the sounds it gets, but it's difficult to integrate with the DAW setup, I'm really getting into the ease of use and flexibility of VST/DX instruments, being able to save patches, automate settings, etc.
There's a sound you get running a drum track through the triggered synth on the FM4 which is insanely glitchy and cool, that's the main thing I was searching for, and a nice autowah type effect.
Thanks again for the responses.
