According to NI's site where several new announcements have been made, Komplete Care 2006 will be available to Komplete 2 and 3 customers.
Looks like KC2005 customers will get Electrik Piano and Guitar Rig then if they stump up for KC2006. I don't know if there'll be discounts for people who've bought them separately.
The list of new products at AES appears to be:
Komplete 3
Komplete Sound 2
Komplete Care 2006
Guitar Rig 2
NI Essentials
Bandstand (looks like a GM product)
B4 II
Kontakt 2 Tutorial DVD
Akoustik Piano (already released)
Traktor DJ 3 (already announced)
Komplete 3 and Care 2006 will apparently be available from October 10th.
So I guess that if you take up KC 2006, you'll immediately get Guitar Rig and Electrik Piano, then receive the B4 2 and Guitar Rig 2 updates when they're available.

Glad I took up Komplete Kare 2005 and will be glad to take up Komplete Kare 2006.

If I read this right ("this" being the NI site) then a Komplete 2 owner like me who has not upgraded via Komplete Care pays the same price for Komplete Care 3 as a Komplete Care 2005 user.
Good news for me but if I'm right there will be some unhappy Komplete Care 2005 users.
Regards,
Derek.

I thought that as I read through it initially. I imagine that the justification will be that those users (like myself) have had access to Battery 2/Absynth 3/Reaktor 5/Kontakt 2 for up to 12 months already. I think that there'll be a few upset Guitar Rig and Electrik Piano users as well as there's no mention of discounts for them that I can see on NI's site.
I'm not justifying or defending NI here, but the argument is the same across many markets. For example, an Xbox cost somewhere between £250-300 at launch and yet can be bought today for £99.

Yes but if you upgrade to Komplete 3 you may be up to date briefly but will not have any updates during 2006 - so if you want to stay up to date you would need komplete kare 2006.

Man I *hope* you're right...it is a bit hard to decode all the upgrade speak at the NI site. It doesn't really say outright that KC05 people get the products that are in the K3 package, only that we will get new updates for products in the K2 *or* K3 package...andrew71 wrote:Looks like KC2005 customers will get Electrik Piano and Guitar Rig then if they stump up for KC2006. It would make sense if KC05 customers can just buy the KC06 and then get all the updates.
This one puzzles me (from the KC2006 page):
"If you have already purchased or registered the latest version of a product that is part of your NI KOMPLETE 2 or 3 bundle, its corresponding update will not be included in your KOMPLETE CARE 2006 package."
Does this mean that if I upgrade to GR2 separately, I will not get GR2 in the Komplete bundle??? Strange. Or maybe I'm better off selling GR then, and get thew new controller separately.

Err.. I don't think Komplete 2+ KC2005 owners will get Guitar Rig and Elektric Piano if you get KC 2006
Purchase this single package and receive all RELEVANT product updates for your version of NI KOMPLETE 2 or 3 for the entire calendar year 2006.

I disagree, I think KC2005 owners will get them as long as they get KC2006 - it would be grossly unfair otherwise as what is the point of getting the KC package if all you have to is update komplete every year.

with care 2005 you only get updates which are related to the products in komplete 2 - e.g Reaktor 4 -> Reaktor 5, B4 -> B4 II, Kontakt -> kontakt 2, fm7 -> fm8
Elektrik P and Guitar Rig 2 are not updates for products included with NI KOMPLETE 2 - and therefore not part of care 2005.
and with care 2006 you will get updates to be released in 2006 for your komplete 2 version - e.g. pro53 - pro54, or spektral -> spektral 2
thats it.
but i think there will be an update to komplete 3 for k2 users
Best,
James

but the komplete 3 owners defintely dont get the footpedal for guitar rig - which is surely a large chunk of the appeal
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

To be honest, I'm only interested in getting Guitar Rig. Electrik Piano and B4 2 are of no real interest to me and other than GR2, there's no information on which products are going to be updated during 2006. I was a latecomer to KC 2005 (I think I bought it around May, close to the release of Reaktor 5 and Kontakt 2) as I bought Komplete 2 during the Battery 2/Absynth 3 update grace period.
If it's true that KC2005 customers won't get GR and EP as part of the KC2006 package then that looks like extraordinarily bad value. 249 euros for just the B4 2 update (which may even be released before the end of 2005, in which case KC2005 customers should get it without needing to get KC2006). Perhaps there'll be a special upgrade price for Komplete 2 customers as Sir James suggested.
To recap on the products that were updated during 2005
Battery 2 - 99 euros
Absynth 3 - 99 euros
Reaktor 5 - 149 euros
Kontakt 2 - 149 euros
That's about 500 euros worth of updates over the course of the year, possibly 600 if B4 2 makes it out before the new year.
If B4 2 is out before the new year and GR 2 isn't available to KC2005 customers then I can't see too many people ponying up 250 euros with no idea of how many relevant products might be updated before the end of 2006. My feeling is that there will either be a cheap-as-chips upgrade to Komplete 3 for Komplete 2 users or that G2 and EP updates will be included in the KC2006 package along with the Komplete Care Kard...

But will you say the same next year?baggio wrote:Glad I took up Komplete Kare 2005 and will be glad to take up Komplete Kare 2006.
I never doubted KC2005 was a great deal. But this time, NIhasn't said a thing about what we can expect yet. How many upgrades, and which, for €250?

I will wait for clarification - basically if by getting KC2006 I get the Guitar Rig etc then it will be a good deal. If I have to pay for upgrade and KC2006 then N.I can forget about getting anymore of my money.

And the letter that came with Reaktor5 says "look forward to many more updates". B4 II is one.... to me "many more" is more than one, and even more than two
So I thought NI would throw in EP&GR software instead of major updates
But propably not, since there is no upgradeinfo or KC2005 info at NI's site yet...
