This is absolute nonsense.

I could be wrong on this, but I would prefer to see an official document on the Roland owning [part of] Cakewalk thing rather than a commonly stated supposition.

Yeah, well all those search engine queries relating to sonar vst probs must be fictional.

I think that Cubase lets you intricately edit midi with a better workflow! Sonar is GREAT for audio, and has cool destructive wave editing that is very intuitive.. SX3 WOULD have easily beat out sonar 4, but now that sonar 5 has inline midi, its about even..

ONE THING that Sonar is VERY far behind in is Swing..
In S4-S5 you HAVE to use a midi effect. In Cubase, since v2, you can skew the midi editing grid and acutually SEE the swing taking effect, then input notes on the skewed midi piano roll. Very cool. I really hope ext will soon impliment this, that way i can upgrade to s5 and just use ext as a vst, and use s5 for its incredible audio!

Anyone know if there is an sx3 crossgrade from sonar that rivals the sonar 5 upgrade price?

fine, except Sonar can play projects with a high cpu load, Cubase pops stutters and drops out all over the place. isn't the realtime performance of any importance?
Realtime performance is not AS big of a deal to ME. But you may be right.. In any case, the gapless audio engine was just recently added by cakewalk in the latest update i believe. Maybe cubase will "catch up" and impliment the same in a free update.. If they did, i think i would cross over.. Because their midi editing is just plain better.. I dont like midi effects because i need to manually mouse in EVERY note.. So cubase wins at midi, sonar wins at audio and cpu.. Why cant cake and stein team up and make the perfect host?

In Cubase, If u use the vst's I mentioned in my1st post, you do not need to input every note by edit.
With Groove Agent, and Broomstick bass, and more, you choose a pattern and make small edits afterwards, tweaking the outputs, and the individual instrument sounds.

ya i know, but cubase gives you the option to manually input swung notes, and options are good because they please everyone.

The fact that some people have had some problems with some VSTs proves absolutely nothing about your assertion that 'VSTs are designed for Cubase'.

On the other hand it is proof that VSTs do actuaklly work in Sonar, despite your ludicrous claim to the contrary.

Oh, and I run hundreds of VSTs on my system, including some of the major commercial packages out there, and they work. Going by your standard of proof, that must mean Sonar works for all plugins, for everybody, yeah?

But to address your claim, most VSTs are actually designed to work on hosts which implement the VST 'standard', not just specifically for Cubase. Most developers arent actually dumb enough to just target one program and hope everything else works out alright.

In fact, the only company who probably design solely for Cubase is Steinberg, and they've tweaked the interpretation of the standard more than once to suit themselves. Every host developer out there has to keep an eye on what Steinberg change, and every plugin developer has to keep an eye on differences of interpretation of how a host should behave, since thats not actually any part of the published VST standard.

Ya some vsts work in everything BUT cubase!
