As usual, an IK press release is just confusing to me.

I believe the idea was that the engine upgrade was going to be free to ST2.0 owners, but you were going to have to pay extra for the sounds if you wanted them as well.

I don't see an option here to upgrade my engine at all unless I spend $299US. I only have the ST2.0 engine - no sounds.

Tell me there is going to be an engine-only upgrade for free - please - somebody.

Well.. the news section here at KVR states 2.1 is shipping from the end of October.

From the announcement:

SampleTank 2.0 L/XL customers who purchased before January 20th, 2005 can upgrade to the new plug-in for free and take advantage of a limited time offer to get the new sound set for $99/€79.

Dan
Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

Ooooops!

Thanks Dan - missed that small part of the sentence when I read it. Engine still for free - goodie.

Will the 2.1 library or the 2.1 engine require a dongle?

I recall Squids stating that there will not be a dongle with 2.1. So we are spared for now.

Will the 2.1 engine be able to read the Miroslav Philharmonik sounds, as previously advertised? I see nothing about that in the annoucement...

I sincerely hope so. I will not buy any future IK MM product if that happens. I have witnessed too many PCs trashed by dongles to trust them. They do not work (i.e. obviate piracy) and punish everyone.

That announcement long predates the release of Miroslav and I'm sure Squids or Kim stated here that ST2.1 will not read Miroslav sounds.

Thus what we will get is an updated engine (for free) with the final list of new features yet to be confirmed (except knowing that it will not import Miroslav sounds) and a refreshed/expanded sampleset that some people have to pay an upgrade fee for.

Oh and Squids stated categorically it will not use a dongle - which makes sense given it wont read Miroslav sounds. If it was going to do that then it would have to use a dongle too.

Well, crap! the MP manual also states that a future ST2.x release will be able to read MP sounds.

Aw well, no biggie, I guess it's worth it to not have to put up with another dongle ;-)

I think the Miro manual stated that ST2.5+ would support Miro.

I believe if the iKey remains in IK's agenda, then this is where we would see a SampleTank dongle. That's not fact, just a personal assumption.

If ST2.x does get an iKey you will not need another one, you can just copy the licence info onto your Miro one.

From IK'S press release about ST2.1XL
If you qualify for the free upgrade to the application and the new DVD sound set, please click here to fill out our online form.
will customers who purchased ST2XL from esoundz need to fill out that form at the IK website? Or will esoundz take care directly?

That's a shame! That will be when I say goodbye ST2.

Just in case anyone's still confused:
  • Everyone using ST2 gets the ST2.1 engine for free.
  • The ST2.1 engine will be available as a download (via your user area on ikmultimedia.com), and will not require a USB key.
  • Anyone who bought ST2XL after January 20th this year (2005) will get the sounds update for free.
  • Anyone who bought ST2XL or L before January 20th can get the sounds update for US$99.
  • ST2.1 will not read Miroslav Philharmonik sounds.
Hope that helps. :)

-Kim.

This might be obvious, but may I assume that ST2.1 will still read the SonikSynth2 sounds?

thanks in advance!
