TotcProductions wrote:Ok....another song mastered...lol, only, it's my own. I wasn't happy at all with the mixing job last time...so i've re-mixed and re-mastered the whole thing. It's a little bit different than last time....but, hopefully, it's finished completely now....It's going up to the Mastered Tracks Folder at the FTP mentioned in xander's Gargantuous info posts. ;) Obviously i've heard from the author....;) but if anyone has the time and could do me the favor of listening to it and letting me know your opinions on how it sounds, please do. Moving on to emdot ambient's song now.

peace!
Great song Frank!

Man what a CD this is going to be -- amazing :)

FTR ==> I hear the same thing on my monitors as Keith does re the cymbals -- other than that -- perfect! :)

Cheers,

Hey thanx xander! appreciate the feedback. I'm gonna try to fix those cymbal crashes and see what happens. just have to remember what mastering settings i used. I always forget to save my mastering projects....i save the mixing files...but never mastering stage. oh well.

By the way, i don't know if it stands out enough to hear it well....but if you can distinguish it...how does the bass towards the end sound? The electric bass, not the synth bass that starts in the beginning of the song....It's one of manytone's bass sample instruments, ran through amplitube for a tube-amp/cabinet sound. Does it sound real enough, or still like it was all triggered from a midi keyboard?

peace!

OK -- I think it's merely a matter of personal preference at this point. It's a KILLER song mate.

I listened to it through my DAX full volume and looked at the analyzer.

IMHO (where the 'H' stands for humble), I'd double the electric bass with a note-for-note -1 octave, or use the MDA sub bass synth to add some balls on the bottom. There appears to be little-to-none sub bass harmonics -- so adding a few of such would add a kick-arse feel that I always like to hear in such songs, and I think the lower octave doubling (reduced a few clicks in gain) to add that slight bottom and/or adding the sub synth would do the trick).

I LOVE that low-end growl...

And YES -- it sounds totally real without any adjustment mate :) Paul Manytone's sounds rock! :D

It's great as it is mate -- just saying what I'd prolly do if it were me 8)

Cheers,
Alex

FTR: I add sub bass harmonics now to all my work. If every new car stereo in China has a sub woofer, then I reckon the rest of the world does too, and I wanna mix for their listening pleasure.

SOme time ago, I listened to my tracks side-by-side to some commercially produced tracks in a new Merc 560SL (Bose 140). Mine sounded thin and weakly, and I sayethed unto meself: "Never again shall the Xanderman sound whimpish in ANY stereo!"

...Though when the bastards stop at the red light below my apartment while listening to Eminem, my windows rattle... :hihi:

;)Cheers,
Alex

I live near a traffic light too, and on a main route...so I get that all the time. Especially around the evening rush hour...I often wonder if they know in ten years they'll be sorry for what they have done to their ears...

I'm obsessive about hearing protection....and why do you have that much pumping through headphones? Get yerself some DT 770's and get use to their fine sound at less damaging levels...;)

I heard a report on NPR the other day that it's quite possible that the extra loud volumes in the bass/sub bass actually may do less damage than what it would seem.

I think this everytime I'm a stoplight and I can hear the ridiculous boooooooooom, bum booooooooooom (always replete with license plate buzz) and it's not even the car next to me, but a few back at the light.

Loud volumes of mid and higher frequencies supposedly are more damaging and induce hearing lost faster (according to said report on NPR).

Any audiologists in the house that can give an authoritative answer to this?

Just a note about the FTP site....

With my FTP software, I see a 'Mastered Tracks/' indication, but when I click on it, it doesn't act like a folder, I get a squawk from Windows, and I'm still looking at all of the original .wav files, with that 'Mastered Tracks/' still showing in the list.

Anybody else having this issue?

I have heard this before and I question one thing....if the bass is too loud likely the high-end is as well...

But tinitus (sp) is basically the hairs in the inner ear that vibrate and act as receptors being "blown over". Think of it like palm trees in a storm....they blow way over, after a while they recover less and less, thus leaning more and more. I would think that subwoofers move much more air making the wind that much more damaging...but this is just my thoughts and I could be very well wrong...;)
