OK I am demoing this mystery amp sim
I want your opinion.
Do you like what you hear?
As requested by many here I used no FX, it's just the overdriven amp and a little of the built in spring reverb.
Here is a sample by itself and in a mix (kinda not really mixed)
The drop outs in the volume are the demo limitation.

I will reveal the name of the plug later, meanwhile you are welcome to guess.
EDIT
Here is a clean setting with the same plug.

Hey you should always be honest.A3ntar wrote:OK, I will be honest with you. It sounds bad. Not in the cool bad sens, but in the bad bad send. SorryI want your opinion
This suppose to be a simple vintage amp from the early days of Rock and Roll.
It's not a great sound but it sounds very responsive to dynamic playing.
This is something AT1 lacks and AT2 suppose to have.
They call it "DSM Technology"
It will be really great if they nailed it correctly:
DSM™ is a new and exclusive IK Multimedia technology used in the emulation of analog circuitry in AmpliTube 2. DSM was designed to increase the realism of the response modeled from stomps, amps and effects.
For example, in the real-world, all analog circuits behave differently according to the level of the signal they are driven (i.e. when driven by a signal ramp), but traditional emulation of analog circuits so far have not been capable to accurately adapt to these various conditions.
Traditional emulation results in a distorted signal with artifacts even at low level (A), because of the limitation of current technology which is not able to dynamically adapt to the various circuitry status. On the contrary DSM emulation at low level of circuit driving is able to dynamically adapts and reproduce the signal with the same behaviour a real analog circuit would do and therefore without introducing any noticeable artifacts.
Even at a high levels of driven signal DSM performs better, because at high-level of signal driving DSM performs better, because it ensures for a more natural saturation and smooth clipping than what normally achieved by traditional emulation (B) just like the response of real analog or tube circuitry.
DSM’s dynamic response follows that of real circuitry with an accuracy that cannot be found in any other hardware and software gear today, reproducing all the signal nuances of the analog circuits it emulates with a realism never heard before.

I'm quite sure it's just the amp sim, stash... don't be crazy, man-- a Squier is a great-sounding guitar for the price, and even something much cheaper would still sound 'passable'. The bad sound is clearly a product of the sim, not the guitar.
The Garnet amp I mentioned IS a classic, with a separate gain/distortion control called "Stinger"!
They nailed the sound, but it's one of my least favourite sounds ever.

AndrewSimon, how did you get ahold of the DSM technology review from IK, and how where did you acquire the sim/sample?
I still don't like the sound, but if they nailed the sound their are trying to reproduce than this is more exciting than I thought it would be

Ah yes-Garnet-one step below Traynors at Long&McQuade! That brings back memories!Lunch Money wrote:It sounds horrible-- but that's not always a reflection on the actual sim, but could be the way its been set. It's almost unlistenable, though, no matter what it is. Sounds a bit like my Garnet amp, which is actually a real tube amp.I'll take a sim over my Garnet any day.

And endorsed by Randy Bachman.
Actually, I love Bachman's tone on some songs, but the demo by Andrew reproduces a tone that is NOT the one I'm achieving with the Garnet.
Actually, some Garnets are fetching a decent price from collectors. Now that I'm thinking about it, though, it's probably not the same kind of "classic" amp that Andrew's referring to, since this one seems to have been "born" in 1969 or 1970.
