well recently i worked on an Audio/video project.. My friend gave me an Mpeg clip with a rough audio track... and i was quite surprised when i imported the video clip in nuendo, that the audio track was not imported... i got some message saying that the audio track could not be imported...

Well i went thru help and did not find much info... any idea about this... what about avi and mov formats.. will i face the same problem with them...

And i'm curious about other DAW's too.. could someone lemme know about Protools, Logic, Abletone Live, FL Studio as to what are the formats of video they can import, and what all video formats can be imported along with the audio... :)

okay i tried with an avi file in nuendo and that had no problem... nuendo imported the audio in a separate audio track... HMM yet to try with a .mov file...

Working in collab with video can be a nightmare unless all persons involved sit down and agree on format and, more importantly, codec they will use to share files.

Don't forget AVI and MOV are basically wrapper format and any numbers of codec (compressor/decompressor algos) can be used with them, and you must have the same installed on all the machines to be able to work with them. My suggestion is to use either the AVI or MOV wrapper (choose one, not both, and forget the mpeg) and stick to mainstream standard codec.

On PC the import audio from Video file depends largely on the codec used, and how the audio is embedded in the file.

Almost all mpeg stuff has worked here OK, and I tend to stick with AVI's (MS-1 codec) and they work fine. There is a codec availavle for .mov files so that they can be used by DirectMusic on the PC, which may help.

you can use virtualdub to extract the audio from MPEG1 videoclips. You could save it as a wav file then import it.

Man i never knew working with video could be so complicated... Two more limitations i found in my nuendo.. It can have only one video track in each session... and the video track cannot contains clips of different format.. all clips on the track have to be of the same format...

Hmmmm strange, mpeg files extract audio for you Bas... I never had any luck with the mpegs i tried.. Yeah one of the avi clips managed to have its audio extracted... Hmmmm so its this codec thingy haan?

What do u think is the best solution to ensure smooth working with video...

I am currently working on a 1 minute jingle, and the video i think is being edited in Avid... :)

Ask the vieo suite to export the file using MS-1 codec, or get any format tht works on you machine, with a seperate audio file for the clip.

You got me wondering if I had made a mistake, but I just tested in SX, I can load an MPEG file and the audio is imported fine.

I can not help you with Nuendo, but it seems like you have plenty knowledgable people already on the job. You asked about other software. I use SOnar and well... it also imports video and audio. I used it to score a fair number of videos. I have not yet experienced the same problem as you, as it always import in fine. It come up with a dialogue asking if I want to import audio as well.
