hi, this is my first post but i've been lurkin for a little while learning this and that, i was over at em411.com and saw somebody post a suggestion to someone asking about acid 5 vs ableton Live, anyway the person said that magix deluxe 2005 was way better than acid 5 thats how i became curious. I use ableton Live btw, anyway upon looking at this app on their site

http://site.magix.net/english-us/home/m ... 1&version= (http://site.magix.net/english-us/home/music/music-studio-10-deluxe/mustu-10-dlx/new-functions/?no_cache=1&version=)

it looks too good to be true, and i'm wondering if any of you have had any experience with it, i've seen it for 59bucks and 79bucks and thinking about running it alongside Live.

the features just seem to good but somebody at abletons forum said that they are the same people who make samplitude, what do yo guys think?

and thanks in advance.

Magix is two separate programs that do not integrate very well.

The audio program is pretty good -- extremely good for the money. It functions very well as an audio recorder, editor, and mixer, but not a VSTi host.

The MIDI program works well, but it's a personal choice whether you like its inteface (very similar to Logic4).

It's a usable program, and good value for the money.

How good does something have to be, to be better than Acid, anyway?

I use Deluxe 2004, just the midi studio, never got around to trying the audio studio though I hear good things about it. Midi Studio is a very different beast from Live and Acid. Basically it's a slightly cut down version of the last Logic for Windows. The piano roll/midi editing/transformer is first rate!

Good value for money but it's getting long in the tooth and is missing some important features... no inserts, no freeze, no pdc, no Vst automation (at least in 2004). Since getting the free version of Traktor 1 I've relegated Midi Studio to midi duties only (but it was worth the price just for that :!: ).

Post

I use Music Studio 10-it's MIDI Studio is actually Logic (LSO files, EXS24 samples, etc can be use) and works well with impressive MIDI and piano roll-I use it to also edit Babya Logic MIDI files.

If you own Ableton Live why the hell would you want Magix?

it is a good package and a good worth for the money.

but: they always camouflage the technical specs by listing them and not exactly saying which of the two progs does what...

I was tempted, too (I have the 2003 version), but still the samplitude version has no vsti integration...and my interest is focussed only on this app...who wants a given up mini-logic...not interesting imo....although...also this cut-down logic version has lots of musical possibilities...

Magix deluxe is actually 2 different and totally unrelated programs. The audio studio is rather nice, if somewhat limited, but the midi program is totally horrible. Newbies will find midi studio daunting, what with a 500 pages or so manual in badly translated English, weird icon with no tool tips and multipages gui, while experienced musician will find it way too limited; and the GUI  , how strong and often can you say UGLY! like, vomit ugly is still too soft an expression. I still have the 2004 version, never made a tune with it, a waste of money.

I would strongly suggest to try EnergyXT and Podium for a sequencer in the same price bracket, those 2 are more refined and intelligent sequencer any way you want to look at it and are easier to use while being more powerful (and they both look good, important when you spend hours in front of them).

Post

You have to thank Apple for the poor MIDI Studio-as it is a cut-down Logic 5.x.

Post

Or something like Babya Logic Studio (be aware that its UI is not like Logic's)-it's free and easier to use or the shareware Energy XT.

i have the 2004 version. audio studio is very handy imo. it's worth the price just for the cd burning which is all i use it for anymore. the midi studio complicates simple things. i used it quite a bit before switching to fruity loops for midi (which is easier and does a lot more). tracktion is where i do most of my work these days, but i still use fruity loops for almost all my midi stuff. there's much better stuff out there than the cheap magix stuff for not much more in price. the audio studio is good, but i think only supports up to 48 hz in reality (noticed the wordplay about sample rates also).

I'd be EXTREMELY surprised! They'd lose a lot of their userbase anyway if they did away with Midi Studio.

It may be down to Magix marketing, and the fact they don't understand that people want to differentiate between each component - Magix develops Samplitude, so they can easily incorporate new features into Audio Studio, and its new features are what they shout about in promoting the new editions, but there must be ties with the licensing of the legacy PC Logic code that hold things up for Midi Studio, so they don't make so much of it at launch time.

What's happened in the last two UK/European releases is that Music Studio's new version's released, Audio Studio has some significant new features, but Midi Studio doesn't at that point. Then a patch is released that gives a significant upgrade to Midi Studio (and sometimes some new features or bugfixes for Audio Studio) a few months later (MS 2005's last patch added ReWire support, FX inserts on audio tracks, and a new synth modelled on one of Logic's - OK, it plays 40 cents flat at the moment, but we've reported that bug and they're seeing to it ... :x ). This may well be what happens again this time.

As for gripes about the Midi Studio interface (and the manual), people shelled out plenty of cash to use pretty well the same interface (and manual) in Logic 5.5 for PC, so give me a break! :D

Both parts of the program have their strengths. You get two fully fledged sequencers for your money, so there's no real catch. If you can't produce music with their combined features, it's not the software's fault.

A tip: If you're thinking of buying, hold off a couple of months after each version's release, then check out Amazon and suchlike - they usualy undercut Magix. If you have a version already, you should be able to get a discount from Magix for the new version.

nope. it consists of 2 apps. see my upper post. but exactly your confusion they intend with their unsharp product description. definitely still no vsti integration in audio studio.

up to now that was so (although their upgrade discount was ridiculous small)
I telephoned to them and asked for an upgrade price from my version 2003. it's no more possible.
