Sorry, but I don't actually see much that's new for GR2 - apart from the foot controller. Am I the only one?
And I don't think my laptop has USB2 - would I still be able to use this controller?
However, GR1 was pretty attractive already. The choice between GR2 and AT2 (I already have AT1) is becoming more and more difficult now...

Well, that is exactly why they announced it now.Trojan Badger wrote: However, GR1 was pretty attractive already. The choice between GR2 and AT2 (I already have AT1) is becoming more and more difficult now...
I hope AT2 will be great because I don't like GR.

I liked the demo of GR1 but since I can upgrade to Amplitube 1 for 199 now and get 2 for free... I guess I will do soAndrewSimon wrote:Well, that is exactly why they announced it now.Trojan Badger wrote: However, GR1 was pretty attractive already. There's four new amp models (giving you twice the amps), a couple new distortion pedals, an auto-wah, a dedicated Cry Baby emu, LFOs and step sequencers to drive various effect parameters, the Pro-53 filter, a new loop/phrase recorder... I'd say that's quite a bit.Trojan Badger wrote:Sorry, but I don't actually see much that's new for GR2 - apart from the foot controller. Am I the only one?

The new amps are fairly obvious choices- the higher gain Marshall and the Bassman will both get used a lot around here, as will the JC emu.
For $119 (if you're doing the software upgrade from GR1), what's not to like? Double the amps and some really twisted mod possibilities

The loop recorder and mod options make GR actually interesting to me for the first time; looking forward to more info. I’ve yet to be convinced that all these virtual amp sims are any better sounding than hardware amp sims. The Waves hardware might make a difference sonically; that seems quite a bit more sophisticated than what either GR or AT is offering.
But what I was really hoping for was access to other plugins within the GR rack. How hard would a VST/AU I/O loop be to implement?

Never thought about that. I always use GR as an effect plugin in Ableton Live but I agree it would be nice to have some send/returns, at least.David wrote:But what I was really hoping for was access to other plugins within the GR rack.

Yes, that'd be great - then you could stick an amplitube amp in the middle of GRs signal path!

Even if the amp sims turned out to be mediocre,I REALLY want this for the looper and the step sequencers and env. generators!

Exactly, Aural... I can’t wait to find out if EVERY parameter can be controlled by the ANY of the modulators, including loop recording on/off, feedback levels, audio i/o levels on the various mixers, with multiple destinations and parameter inversion... And all about the looper itself: Seems to draw on features from the Echoplex DP, with Multiply, etc. I wonder if this is a delay-based looper with adjustable feedback for controlled fadeouts? Very interesting indeed...
RE: amp-sim sound quality, checking in at the NI GR forums led me to some interesting stuff about the Digitech GNX4 and some “supermodel” presets that are available for it from a 3rd party; some of the mp3 demos are quite impressive in terms of copping a recorded (as opposed to live-amp) sound.

Deggy: you may as well patch together your own effects out of various plugins in that case. I daresay that without the amp sims, you could probably get better results with dedicated effect plugins anyway, at greater CPU cost.
//edit: Oh, you said also. Ignore me.
If the modulation is very quick and easy to set up (and I imagine it would be), I'd definitely consider buying this in the future.
