I hear this word used a lot when refering to a music program. Is the host whatever the music program you are running?

It is a program capable of hosing plugins, be they VST, DX or AU or whatever. Generally it refers to sequencers but there are much simpler hosts around, like TobyBear's MiniHost, and sequencers that are not capable of hosting plugins, like Reason.

LOL, frankly I still don't fully know what the difference is between Host, Sequencer, Sampler, Syntethiser...I have an idea, but nowadays it seems that most of the "hosts" are doing all of the above.
