My friend was visiting me and brought a gift. It was from one of his friends that was gonna toss it to good will or something.

A Fender MusicMaster Bass !!

One pickup, but a little spit and polish on it's nice cherry red finish and looks great and also sounds great going thu GREEN AMP on my receptor. The Tag says it was purchased in 1984, so it's *kinda* vintage.

But saw an Ebay ad, and a guy was selling one for 400 bucks( although a 1970 model) so I consider myself lucky. My other guitar has a red finish as well, so they look great together.

anyway..really happy to be able to play "Real bass" on my tracks. Anybody else do that?

Congrats on the new instruments. Always fun to get something different and expand your playing.

I sort of play some bass on some tracks. Actually use a regular midi guitar and some bass samples. Not exactly the same ..but as I said, sort of.

well..thats what I did before. I used manystation , as his bass stuff is superb and my casio midi guitar. But its' still not the same. Playing a real bass is much different ( and fun)

not nearly as often as i should. i was originally a bassist (and i guess i still am at heart) but i took a whole bunch of years off when i became a synth addict. thankfully, over the last few years i've been playing a hell of a lot more often. now if i'd just start writing some more songs, i'd have more tracks with real bass on them. (especially with that used modulus i got in july.

)

at the moment, only a few songs i've got on my site have real bass playing on them...

the bassline in traveler is real bass. pants of fury has two bass parts...the slap bass is real and the deep, heavy distortion stuff was done on my 8 string. dreams was played entirely on the 8 string bass + a ton of effects. even the percussion parts and the synth like pads are bass through effects.

What, you mean the "patented Evolution roller system"?

They're independant volume controls for each pick-up. (The 3 black knobs are bass mid & treble active tone controls, with centre detents)

now that you have it - I'm assuming you have a way to get the output into your software. These are required downloads for you:

1. Voxengo's boogex amp simulator.

2. Download JGreenlee and Philfee's bass amp impulse responses - use one of the Ampeg cabinet miced with an SM 57.

I got the bass tone on this recording from the above combination and a cheap chinese made SX P-bass copy:

It was my August KVR contest entry. By the way, I did have the bass plugged into a little dbx mini pre to DI it into the PC.

Vol one doesn't have tab so I couldn't use it, but this one is absolutely amazing if you want to play bass the way it was meant to be. No fluff or 2nd rate stuff in here - just be ready to give your fingers a workout!

I'm already there! Frankly though, I need to develop some right hand technique before I worry too much about precise amp settings..

Funny, I thought I knew all the Fender basses but I've never heard of a musicmaster bass, for a while I thought u meant a 'Musicman' bass (which isnt really by the Fender company although Leo Fender did have a hand in the design). I have a 78 Fender Jazz bass.

Thanks for the replies and also that plugin info. I have been having success using Green Amp II on receptor to beef it up. Just used it on a track and sounding good!

The Red Les Paul was actually hand built for me by a freind who is a good woodcraftman. Sounds great! So now the red bass music master makes it a good pair.
