Best VST automation outside Steinberg

After reading about sometimes problematic
relations between Hosts and VST(i) with
automation, I wonder which non-Steinberg,
(maybe even lower end product) you feel
has the best VST automation.
I really was surprised by Live and it's
2D-Controller. Any other nice extensions
or great, stable implementations around?
Thanks, RS

AudioMulch's automation emnvelopes are amazing and very powerful (I use them to "sequence" sounds).

energy XT has great VST automation. It's a matter of creating an envelope and assigning it to a VST and a parameter.

You mean like creating an envelope and then assigning the parameter to the envelope and not copying the envelope to the new parameter?Branis wrote:energy XT has great VST automation. It's a matter of creating an envelope and assigning it to a VST and a parameter.
In the end will be the word.

It goes like this:fritzman wrote:You mean like creating an envelope and then assigning the parameter to the envelope and not copying the envelope to the new parameter?Branis wrote:energy XT has great VST automation. It's a matter of creating an envelope and assigning it to a VST and a parameter.
1. create midi track with a VST instruments assigned to it.
2. create an envelope track and assign it to the VST instrument. You can choose any Midi CC number for that envelope (default is 74).
3. assign the same CC you chose for the envelope to a parameter of your choice on the VST instrument.
If your VST instrument has predefined Midi CC numbers for it's parameters in step 2 just assign a Midi CC that you need to the envelope. In that case you don't need step 3.

just to remind the Treat starter:
dont hesitate to try both, EnergyXT and FLStudio, as both have fully functional demo versions.
Tracktion and Console Sound Modular(also fully functional demos available) have also very good Remote control models.

Logic does it best out of all the sequencers I've used, this is one of the reasons why am sticking with my old copy of Logic 5.5.1

My "real" problem is - good automation/compatibility with VST effects
and video support ... and Live, my favorite demo trial until
now (with it's great VST UI wrapper), has no video support and I
couldn't find a rewire video player for PC.
Thanks, RS

Ableton Live is great for automating things like pan, volume and even program change. It is easy and intuitive. EXT allows you to automate every individual aspect of a VST, even ones that are not normally automatable in other sequencers. It is a great choice for precise tweaking of every component. The learning curve is a bit higher.
