I know exactly what you mean..... I have also compared an EQ I did a GUI for with the same algo but different GUI and - my GUI simply sounded betterianweb123 wrote:OK.. Now this is really weird!!

I've got the working OdO version now..(I will be posting it up tomorrow with a bit of luck) and its identical beneath the skin ..
BUT
Play the patches and because you are looking at a different skin, to my ears, they sound different.
I would not have believed this and I promise I'm not just saying this for the sake of it.. I wouldn't have believed the subjective impact the skin could have..!!
well not because I did it but because it was more beautiful (for me) to look at and somehow that affected my ear/brain connection in a positive way
that's also the reason why I started doing graphics in the first place...
but that being said both GUIs for this new synth look very tasty (and though the original is my favourite) the new one looks very nice and easier to use
good work everybody

People try to deny any links between what we see and what we hear. There are definite links between the two, just hardly anyone has explored them.
To prove the point further... the density and class of an object affect the sound reflections it casts... two seemingly unconnected phenomena, yet there is a connection.

Yep, the only downside I found... people should rename their parameters, like Psychic Modulation does...

I freely admit that this is something that I am very poor at..waveriderarts wrote:emdot_ambient wrote:

Yep, the only downside I found... people should rename their parameters, like Psychic Modulation does...he is about the only free dev doing it right.... for those using automation it is very practical to have unique and descriptive names in the parameter list....

Cosmic stuff - this is great!! Can't wait to see how each GUI influences the sounds I can get from Cygnus. Thanx heaps Tim, Ian, Odo and Vurt!! (did I forget anyone?)

No mixdown. No frozen tracks.bambooman wrote:12 instances ???emdot_ambient wrote:And I'll be posting a brand new 8:04 min all Cygnus epic tomorrow . . . hopefully. how do you handle that?!
let me know! what`s your system-specs?
with, or without, mixdown?
I'm running an AMD 64 4000+ processor with 2 GB of RAM. I didn't look to see where the CPU performance was, but I think it was up around 50-60 at its peak in this song. All 12 instances, however, were not sounding at once. The piece begins with one instance, then is joined by 3 more. I use about 3 at a time through the first 1/3 of the song and then the rest is built up to about 5 playing at once.
For my system Cygnus is probably a medium weight VST in terms of CPU usage. Benedict's SE creation Janus 3 is a heavyweight. One instance of that can take 40% of my CPU . . . wish he could streamline that, it's a great sounding synth.
I was just about to post my song but gave it one more listen. Nope, I have the mix wrong. I'll fix it this afternoon and post it later on.
REALLY sounds nice, though. Cygnus is fnucking awesome!

Okay, Tim, Ian, et al . . . thanks for this incredible synth. Here's my first all-Cygnus composition. I think this will be sufficiently spacy/abstract/melodic to show off Cygnus's charms.
Full details on the presets and FX used are over at the auditorium: THE CYGNUS RIFT
It's 8:10 minutes long, 7.49 MB encoded at 128 kbps.
It's odd, but I find that this one sounds best at moderate volume levels, not cranked. Sounds pretty good as an ambient background track, too.
The song starts very abstract, then slides into what I originally thought was a Vangelis mode, but then I realized the main theme was probably unconsciously adapted from a song on Jon Anderson's first solo album, Olias Of Sunhillow . . . so in that sense, I suppose it is in a more Jon Anderson imitating Vangelis mode
And then the song splinters into its component molecules as it hits the Great Rift of Cygnus to be scattered across space-time and finally merge with a satisfied sigh into the background radiation of the Big Bang.
Or something like that.
Yes, you can use it on the Krakli web page if you'd like

Thanks oodles, Odo. I was scared away by that first GUI. Glad you gave it a second look so I could give it a second look.

with 512MB DDR SDRAM and at about
6 instances ( ALPHA CYGNUS ) I was
running about 55% peaking at 60%

I checked mine a little earlier and it was running anywhere from 45% to 70% depending on how many voices were playing at once. I had at most 6 instances playing at a time with 12 total.system20 wrote:I am running a 3000+ AMD Athlon
