To all devs: Stop plugin fickleness

I know this much, if devs made tutorials and went into detail about how to program their synth then they would spend a lot less time having to deal with customers (especially the ones who think the synth is weak or is not a "hip hop" or "trance" synth, and therefore they want their money back and what not.) Thus freeing up time for dev! But you all make wonderful synths, there are just those out there who rely solely on presets, and that is never good.

My point entirely.

I'm not anti-preset in the slightest.

But I do know that plugs (synths, drums, fx etc) are complex things to learn if you want original sounding pro quality results.

So I welcome structured guidance that gives me the maximum possible useful knowledge in the shortest possible time.

I don't assume tweaking presets is the best way to learn. It might be fine for some, and often it's all we've got. But it's far from ideal.

btw - following up on the RMX video tutorials: My RMX know-how has jumped more this week than it has for months. Any one else report similar?

I think developers should do as they see fit. It isn't like any of us are beholden to the other. I'm amazed at some of the $200 crap out there, but then I see lots of folk fall all over it. Why I want is what you want. Shocking!

I'd like to see better reference manuals, and fewer instructional/tutorial manuals. Give me a list of what's there and what it does, and people to get to it but right clicking on the function in the GUI (or that little Windows '?'), and that's it.

I'm not particularly fickle about much. I've used Audiomulch, Vaz Modular, and Sound Forge for years now. Don't plan on stopping any time soon.

I can't stand video tutorials for anything more than a good marketing device (see the Guru videos FXpansion made, very good at showing you what Guru does). I would not buy software if its help only came in video format. I would not install video tutorials if the installer came with an option.

i could really use a dvd tutorial video manual whatever for Reactor 5...i've got a backround in analog synthesis, and i've used max back when the ircam version was floating around...i bought the opcode release of max and that was a great example of how a manual for a complex programming environment should be written, they start out from the very basic concept of how the app works, build on it, give examples...THEN they present the reference material....R5 is like "here's a bunch of stuff written in the app, you don't need to learn how to write anything, but here's how to do some stuff, here's the mods, here's a book of new mods, have a nice day"...if they came out with more info on the absolute basics and some more info on the basic logic behind the programming, i'd be a bit happier...it's hard for to me to admit it as i've always been able to figure out programs before, but i could really use some indepth video tutorials, i'm talking a 2 dvd set of basic an advanced programming techniques...i feel like i'm wasting this program now...regradless of how many prewritten ensembles they've got, many of them are repetitious and not very useful, i haven't heard many people complain about this (as it's not a complaint , the free enembles are a bonus written by regular folk in many cases), but this is used as a big selling feature which to me ends up being so much hype....

sorry, i'm going off on a tangent....strait up, R5 is a PERFECT example of an app that could greatly benefit from a comprehensive dvd programming tutorial, especialy for guys like me...and having gone to a demo at a music store, there were mostly blank staring faces...a hardcore programming tutorial of R5 would help many, imo...

NI are going to charge for their Kontakt 2 tutorial
