Okay it's been two years since they aquired cool edit, 8 months after they released 1.5...but I have heard no talk of any more releases.

AA has some great features, the noise reduction is awesome. The workflow is natural and the features that are true benefits are many. It's a vey good editor/multitracker.

But we live in a time when there are great apps, not just good. Many vsts do not work in AA so you still need a wrapper. It has some issues and it doesn't seem that Adobe is in a rush to fix them.

I'm being optimistic about them, but tbh I am seeing the value of Sonar...I think AA might end up being just an editor and for mastering...of course if they have a bomb to drop on us then I look forward to that...;)

Adobe seems to be slow in releasing all of their products. They are just lucky that things like acrobat are proprietary and they can get away with it. you almost have to release a new version every year if you want to stay competitive in the audio market.

You expect a new release 8 months after the last one? That's a bit optimistic. How many major hosts are on a faster-than-12-month release cycle?

(Dont forget, Adobe consider usually x.5 releases to be 'major version' changes)

I'm not realy 'waiting' for a new release and consider it one of the best audio programms on the market.
Just my opinion.

No they got cool edit and 8 months later was when they released an update and that was may of 04....Idont "expect" upgrades very often. But I am surprised that after quickly showing their devotion they upgraded...but there are still issues ans even on their site I do not see any word on whats next....I'd thought by now at very inimum they would have atleast the vst issues sorted out and perhaps have asio.

Dont get me wrong, I love AA, but Sonar has updated twice since AA updated. Perhaps one could assume this is good, as they wont keep digging in my pockets...but I really want them to keep up. The last update really didn't help them catch up, it just saved them from falling further behind...that's why I said I hope they're working on something mindblowing, but let's hope for their sake that many of their customers haven't gotten use to more "up to the times" apps...they might not want to go back.

I only bought studio edition of Sonar, I didn't realise that was without eqs on each channel. I have decided that I will wait a bit to see what AA does, if by the first of the year I dont see any signs on the horizon of new things coming I'll bump up to producer...;)

have you had any vsts that it wont open? I have found a few (including two of the avox suite plug ins, but I use the spin audio wrapper)...I agree it's the greatest, but I would like some little issues fixed...asio would be nice as well...;)

Adobe is going to buy Macromedia, maker of Flash. I wonder if that has slowed things down a bit.

I read all my PDF's in xpdf or ghostview. I create all my pdf's with LaTeX and dvips.

Thing is, though, I think they took on CEP to bolster their video bundle with a good audio package. In that market / for that audience they dont really have much competition, and as an editor/multitrack it does more than most 'non-specialists' would need...

I have some issues with vst plug-in support as well - beyond that I generally like AA.

What is all this about wrapper's?

Adobe has an 18 month refresh on all of their products. That's pretty much across the board. I think a big part of that is to work into a corporate market better. Ideally, PC manufacturers want to have an 18 month refresh rate too. This way if something is rolled out this gives an organization time to refresh everything with the same image. The same applies to software. You can't have half a corporation on one version and the other half on another version.

Never forget that with big software manufacturers they usually look out for corporate needs before looking at consumer needs. Corporation and businesses are where the money is at after all.

yeah I agree that was their intent...but it's still great...I just dont want everything to get better around it...but atleast they're not roxio...:hihi:

I have been using AA for a time, and I consider it one of the better host to handle audio (editing, mixing and mastering). I normally record and compose in Live, but I finally work all rendered audio tracks in Audition, even the mastering process. Yes, it could have some bugs, but...wich host does not have it ???, and one important question: With the continuous releases of every product, we are really doing as a "free beta tester" for the companies, the most of the time by paying some amount of money to get the last update......In the actual market you can buy a product with the last features, but in a few months you could probably need to update your product to get the last features and to correct some bugs, sometime paying, but then another new bugs will appears.......So, I prefer a product out of this crazy issue.

Yes I've found a couple that won't open, but found replacement for them. And I'm not exactly what you call a vst hunter, I just stick to the ones I know how to use.
I agree that ASIO would be nice, but I have a good, fast and stable WDM driver for my audio interface.

All in all I find it a good programm and I wouldn't like that they rush the update cycle just to introduce the so called 'beta' bugs.
I'm on of those that like to concentrate on making music and not on finding out why this or that doesn't work.
