That's a brilliant description above. I need a new bass...I have a fantastic fretless, but no fretted bass. The best I guess would be a fretted bass with a midi pickup, so if I didn't like its sound I could record just the Midi. I like the idea of putting the groove back into my hands.

I've been meaning to look around at some pawn shops to see if i could pick one up cheap. But then, I've been meaning to stop and buy a set of strings to replace the ones broken on my Taylor...

I enjoy listening to Patrick O'Hearn playing the bass on his ambient recordings. He uses a 5-string I think, judging by the really low notes. I tried to play along once by detuning my 4-string bass

I got this 300$ (used) Fender Jazzbazz, which is black with white pickupprotector, never realy liked it that muxh, but still a lot better then the guitar.
After I costumized a electric guitar with a new body and some piezos for a little different sound, I fell so in love with it that I wanted that in a base aswell.
So I went and bought a used one for about 60$ overland(er?) copy. But my ohh my, the sound on that baby, if I add compression to her from my 15" bass amp I get "that perfect sound" from her, so I could not bear screwing her apart and replace the body of her.

So there I am, 2 basses, one expensive that I dont really like, and one cheap that I love.

Yep...we did some very cool pycho jazz stuff in alternate tunings. I used to go to thier house twice a week and we would practice. His mom helped me with my math too. Great people! We still email each other and exchange CD's once in a while.
