Quick question:
I heard that you can freeze FX in Cubase sx2... Is this true?
I know that you can freeze instruments but I can see no mention of FX in the manual...
... HELP!

Not as far as I know. I think SX3 does it though.
SX2 freeze sucks BTW: better to bounce the parts you want to freeze (gives you more control over the 'frozen' track)

I upgraded to SL3 from SL a few weeks ago and I am very happy. Of course there's always room for improvements this upgrade has definitely made my (music making-)life easier.
Cheers, Jo

I was thinking of taking the cheaper way out and going to SL3. There are a lot of functions in SX that I don't use.
Are there any that you crave as a SL user?

I'm waiting for SX4 myself.
- Steinberg charges the same, whether you upgrade from SX1 or SX2.
- SX3 has been out some time now, SX4 can't be that far away IMHO

You can't freeze FX in SX2, but you can use offline processing to do the equivalent thing (on Audio tracks, anyhow). With the capability to undo selected offline processing at any time, it is actually probably better than freezing IMHO. This may be some help until you upgrade.

Nothing that I crave, no. The inline and the extra instruments would probably be nice (and I don't really understand why they're not in SL as well), Surround mixing and integration of outboard gear is what really makes SX the tool for the more pro market - but I don't miss 'em cause I hardly have or use any outboard gear and am far away from being able to afford a surround monitoring setup (even though I'd like to try making psytrance in surround
).
In short - i'm happy with what SL has to offer. SX doesn't have anything to offer me to justify the difference in price.

Thanks for the info on offline processing. I currently do this but find it quite labourious to save settings in the mixer then open them and process them seperately. I think SL may suite me too. I don't use any digital mixers or surround monitoring either.
I'll just have to weigh up the pros and cons and decide when I get some pennies.
Thanks all.

But you can't freeze automated FX this way, not without losing automation that is.slartibartfast wrote:You can't freeze FX in SX2, but you can use offline processing to do the equivalent thing (on Audio tracks, anyhow). Which is why I prefer bouncing.

I rarely automate FX, but you make a valid point though.cptgone wrote:But you can't freeze automated FX this way, not without losing automation that is.slartibartfast wrote:You can't freeze FX in SX2, but you can use offline processing to do the equivalent thing (on Audio tracks, anyhow). I do automate some fx... but the real CPU eaters are the EQ and comp on nearly every channel. I usually only use one or two reverbs and leave those active and automated.

Simply no (only SX3), unless you have this:fishybob wrote:I heard that you can freeze FX in Cubase sx2... Is this true?

I've never heard of that gadget.. It does excactly what I need. AND It's a sight cheaper than an upgrade!!!
Thank you. This should do the trick.

Strongly recommended that you try the demo before purchase.fishybob wrote:WOW!

FXFreeze freezes only single FX (not the whole track).
