I have recorded a piano piece in SX, but, as I am a crap piano player, I find all the note velocities are wrong, so, to rectify this, I dissolved the pitches onto different events, then changed the velocities manually, now, well, I need to put the whole thing back together into one event. Cant work out how to do this. Any advice?, or was there an easier way I could have accomplished this? (Apart from piano lessons of course

Yes, either
1. Play the piano better and capture the live performance from a real piano
or
2. Use a midi piano and record the midi notes. Then just change the velocity / pitch / timing of any note easily in the midi editor. You can then play that back through any Piano Plugin. Good ones are:
EASTWEST/PMI Bosendorfer 290
NI AKOUSTIK PIANO
Synthogy Ivory (MAC only at the moment)

1. I already dissed that option in my first pot. I would love to play the piano better but it takes time.Alvarez wrote:Yes, either

2. Yes, that is what I have done. But, when all the notes on a chord start on the same beat, it is extremely messy and difficult to isolate and velocity edit each note. I'm, looking for ideas?

Set your start point at the beginning of the part. Select all notes from each track, then copy or cut (I prefer the non-destructive copy). Go to the main track and paste.
There might be a more efficient way to do this, but this will work.

Um, it shouldn't be difficult to select a note to change the velocity, what sequencer as you using? I use Cubase SX 3 and Ableton Live and it is quite easy to select individual notes that start at the same time by just clicking on the note and then adjusting the velocity of it? You can also change the velocity of groups of notes easily and do many other things like adjusting a set of notes by a chosen amount.

Re: your current problem - create a folder track and move all the dissolved tracks into it. This will give you a single point where you can view and edit all the individual tracks. A bit of a workaround, but easier than copying and pasting all the parts back together.
Re: next time - use the List Editor instead, it's much easier to adjust individual note velocities - you even get dedicated slider controls just for doing this (right-hand panel).
I think dissolve is mainly used to separate rhythm parts into individual drums - that's all I've ever used it for anyway...
