has anyone else here caught any of the dead can dance reunion tour dates? i saw them in maryland (listed as dc) on monday. what an unbelieveable show...everything was tremendous. and as great as lisa gerrard's voice is on cd, thats nowhere even close to how truly awe inspiring she sounds live. wow.

and to make things even more fun for me this week...i just got a ticket for the bauhaus reunion show on november 22nd. (10th row!

Worked with a lot of singers, and seen even more, but Lisa is undoubtedly one of the best singers of her generation. In an age of vapid Britney's and Christina's it's reassuring to find someone who can still use the human voice as an tool to take the listener on a emotional journey.

Unbelievable gig, actually. As well as Lisa and Brendan there were about 5 amazingly talented multi-instrumentalists, who swapped instruments, or added supporting vocals constantly. Who's ever seen a hurdy-gurdy player live, for crying out loud. Amazing.

i saw them many years ago at the Vogue in Vancouver. one of the best shows i have ever seen. It was astonishing to me that almost everything was live musicians - before seeing them i had always assumed they used mostly samples and electronics, but the music sounded even better live, and they were using the actual physical instruments; not that i recognized very many of the instruments

Yeah, i won't ever forget that show. It gave me goosebumps, and brought tears to my eyes, and made my heart beat faster. And Lisa Gerard standing behind a pulpit with a huge hammer dulcimer mounted on top, playing an immensely complex piece of music while at the same time sining in the purest most lovely voice i think i ever heard.....

wow, can you tell i was moved by the experience

My gf was given tickets to one of the Montreal shows on this tour, ended up going. Great sound, Gerrard is amazing, someone should really take the microphone away from Perry though - his Jim Morrisonisms are really hard on the nerves and totally inappropriate. Less acoustic instrumentation this time than the last time I saw them a decade and a half ago. Haven't actually followed their music since 1990 or thereabouts, but they did play a few very old numbers. All shows are being recorded, and cds can be ordered at http://www.dcddiscs.com

BTW, Lisa's instrument is a Chinese variation on the dulcimer - think it's called a Yang Ch'in but I'm not sure.

Saw Keiji Haino doing a solo hurdy-gurdy set once. Made me want one. Decent ones cost a small fortune though. There's a guy who plays one in the street here in Montreal too - mostly French late medieval troubador songs.

dead can dance? sorry, it looks like they already did the european dates. i dont know what bauhaus' tour schedule is like. i didnt even realize they were really on tour until yesterday. (thank god i get the email updates for imp/9:30 shows.)

that happened to me too, and it was all from lisa gerrard. the whole show was incredible, brendan perry rocked, and the band was fantastic...but her voice...oh my god. she did a bunch of sparsely backed solo pieces that dramatically affected me. i'd never witnessed a musical performance that actually started to make me emotional quite like that.

there were points where i was briefly able to silence my mind (damn near impossible for me) and i felt like i was deeply breathing her voice, and at times i was nearly overcome. i swear there is something supernatural about her. even her presence and demeanure was unusual...like a high priestess.

i placed an order yesterday for the show i went to. the sound was perfect that night (great place, and they brought excellent soundmen) and im looking forward to hearing what the recording.

thats a good idea too, to sell high quality cd's of the show you just saw. it would be nice if more bands did that.

Just saw them (for my second time) in NY city last weekend at Radio City Music Hall (great place for a show). Show was incredible, and Lisa's voice, not once, but a few times, had me literally in tears. I'd say 1/2 the show I had my eyes closed, just listening, enjoying. Amazing.

EDIT: Hmm, yeah just read the previous posts. Guess Lisa has a similar effect on others. It was also for me that those solo(ish) pieces were the ones that did me in. My god, the energy I felt. Just thinking about it now brings a tear to my eye.

Was one of them 'Sanvean' by any chance? Gorgeous & spine chilling every time I've seen her do it and reminds me exactly what music is for.

As an aside Ugo, but still DCD related, I've been trying to create that dulcimer-esque type sound in your great String Theory plug - without much success I might add - but that's entirely down to my inability rather than any fault on your part

DCD reunite?!! I didn't know that! Are they going to release any music again as DCD?
As for their live, yeah they are extraordinary! I saw them here in Thessaloniki in 1993 or 94 (I don't remember exactly). They were playing in a theatre in the forest and, my God, the trees were trebling with their vibes... Magic!

I've played duets with one. Or, to be precise, a trio with me on percussion, with a hurdy-gurdy and a folk harp. Was pretty cool.
