NI new stuff & Komplete Care 2006

I find this interesting. To quote myself from 9 months ago:

Instead of buying Komplete Care 2005, I'll simply wait for NI Komplete 3 which will come out in December 2005, and this will contain all the same updates as Komplete Care 2005 for about the same money (but I'll only do it if it's worth it to me, which I'll know in advance). NI isn't stupid - they are providing upgrade options for both types of buyers; the pre-order crowd and the wait-until-the-sale crowd.

It turns out I bought Komplete Care 2005 "LTO" in April '05 for $289 (lowest price turned out to be $249) once I knew that it was coming with Absynth, Battery, Kontakt, and Reaktor. At the time, I felt this was an excellent value. I still do.

Fast forward to today. Is the Komplete 3 upgrade worth it to me? No. Is Komplete Care 2006 worth it to me? No. As of today, there is no guarantee of anything useful unlike KC2005 based on info available in April '05.

So, I'll either wait for Komplete 4 which will inevitably come out in 11/06, or I'll buy KC2006 once there is enough guaranteed value, knowing full well I'd be better off waiting until Komplete 4. I'm sure stores will be selling KC2006 for a discounted price at least until April '06, so there's no rush.

Yeah, there will be offers for the KC2006. But you'll probably need either that or K3 if you want to upgrade to K4, seeing as there is no upgrade path from K1 -> K3.

I can still buy Komplete Care 2006 and get all of the upgrades I missed in 2005 (e.g. Kontakt2, Reaktor5, Absynth3, Battery2 etc.) as well as any upgrades which will/might come out in 2006 for things like B4, Vokator, Spectral Delay

Does this look right? Makes Komplete Care 2006 look quite attractive.

i don't think this is right. KC2006 only entitles you to upgrades released during 2006.

so you would need to upgrade to Komplete 3 to pick up the updates released in 2005.

I think you're right, but if we assume that NI will make some point upgrades during 2006 to (a) fix bugs and (b) add functionality to make KC2006 customers feel better then surely I could go straight from, for example, Reaktor 4 (bought as part of Komplete 2) to Reaktor 5.2 (a 2006 upgrade to a Komplete 2 product and therefore covered under my KC2006 "licence")

Note that I've invented the "Reaktor 5.2" above as an example - I don't know if there'll be one (or even if there already is one!)

i still think this is incorrect.

Komplete 2 came with Reaktor4. You only get to Reaktor 5 by being a Komplete Care 2005 owner (gets you the major upgrade in 2005), or upgrading to Komplete 3 (which comes with R5).

if they release R6 in 2006, then i think you be entitled to it (as a Komplete 2 & Komplete Care 2006 owner).

minor version number updates are free. so if you own R5, then R5.2 (your imaginary version ) is free.

at least that's the way i "understand" this stuff...

but what do i know? i'm trying to figure out my best route also...

I think you're right - I was thinking of the "product" as Reaktor, when I suspect that NI think of the product as Reaktor4.

I have Komplete 2 + KC2005. I paid $240 for the KC2005 part (I already had K2 with Battery&Absynth). If I hadn't bought the KC2005 I could have gotten everything(K3) for $299 (AudioMIDI Price). But because I bought the sub it's going to cost me $230 to get to Komplete 3. That's wrong on many levels.

So the real question is will there be a K2 -> K4 upgrade next year. The answer normally would be no. But I don't have K2, I have K2+KC2005 which is more like K3 than K2. I'm betting they will have something I will qualify for.

Even if they don't I can wait till mid year and do the K2+KC2005 -> K3 upgrade and get anything they upgrade in K3. It's all a matter of waiting. The longer you wait, the better the deal. It's been true in the past, I suspect it will remain true.

I have KC2005 and Komplete 2 and Guitar Rig - I emailed native instruments asking whether there was deal to incorporate Guitar Rig into the Komplete 3 package - baiscally told by N.I to sell Guitar Rig 2nd hand - hows that for customer service.

Fortunately, I bought my K2 when it had Battery2, Kontact2 and Absynth3. I didnt buy the KC package. Thought it was a rip off.

I'm real happy to see that the K2 > K3 upgrade is $299. Thats outstanding for me. I get R5, EP, GR2, and B4II. And again, I will NOT get the KC pakage.

I think I'm the only happy person with this upgrade though, and I really feel bad for those who bought the KC because they are getting ripped off BIG TIME!!!!!

I got Reaktor 5, the updates to Absynth3, Kontakt 2, Battery 2.
I'm happy as a clam with B4 as is..I can wait and see what happens next year.

B4 II is supposed to arrive in november. that means us KC2005 owners should be getting it for free...

As a side note IK Multimedia had done something similar to me. They announced Amplitube 2 last January while at the same time they made a package deal. Buy amplitube and get sampletank for free. I called the sales office, asked if i could get a discounted price because I already had sample tank. They told me to buy amplitube, and sell the second sample tank. So I did.

I guess this time around I won't buy K Care 2006, I'll just wait till the K4 upgrade.

Your K2 package is tied to your K3 package if you upgrade, so you can't sell it separately.
