Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Murder Ballad album. One of my all time favorite albums.

I got to thinking yesterday while singing along to Stagger Lee and O'Mally's Bar, that most people upon listening to these tracks would probably turn them off in disgust, but here I am with every lyric to Death Is Not the End memorized.

Actually, the timing couldn't be better since this would be appropriate non-traditional Halloween music.

Anyone else get a kick out of Nick Cave singing about "when the cities are on fire, with the burning flesh of men..."?

Anyone else got a closet CD that others would probably scoff at? I love this off the wall stuff.

Red Right Hand, I believe. Which is also used in HellBoy

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are way cool, buddy! Ask Metallica, they'd agree too. So go ahead and listen to NC, you psychopath, you!

BTW, these's a neat Nick Cave track on the Acid House soundtrack too.

I like Murder Ballads a lot. However, my favourite Bad Seeds album tends to oscillate between From Her to Eternity and Your Funeral, My trial.

If you want something which really sounds like violent catharsis put to song, listen to From Her to Eternity the track.

Have to agree with robenestobenz that I prefer the early albums. 'From Her to Eternity' is tied for fave individual song for me with 'The Mercy Seat'.
The Birthday Party were great too, especially the live recordings - wish I'd gotten to witness that.

Dystonia: f**k, I've still never checked out the Birthday Party. I've been tending/meaning to for/get something of theirs for ages. What album would you recommend?

The Mercy Seat is an excellent track as well, though it tends to leave me feeling very depressed after listening to it.

Birthday Party-wise, I'd start with 'Prayers on Fire'. If you can find it (and I'm pretty sure it's never been rereleased), the live lp 'Drunk on the Pope's Blood' (one side BP, other side Lydia Lunch) is quite intense.

I'll have a look for both. I like some of Lydia Lunch's stuff (though assigning all credit to her's something of a stretch when I doubt she had much to do with anything other than the vocals and lyrics) and her Foetus collaborations as well, so the seconds CD sounds like it'd be an especially good find.

Blixa Bargeld sings that line. Anyway, yes, mostly because it's Blixa singing it and I'm a long-time Neubauten fan. My favourite song would be "The Curse of Milhaven", because it's a great upbeat song and goes on forever with a genius narrative.

You're right... Who's that guy halfway through that song who sounds like some creepy character from a 50's horror movie?

I like Curse of Milhaven, but I've always enjoyed the narrative provided to me in O'Mally's Bar (which is 3 tracks long in the B-Sides collection.) That line about the 'f*cking really big brick, and split his skull in half...' just kills me every time I hear it.

The song on the album that always gives me the chills, is track one. D*mn I can't remember the name of it.

Actually, Red Right Hand (to this day a classic) was the first song I ever heard by Nick Cave, so I had to go backwards buying old CD's to find out more about them.

I still think they don't get the recognition they deserve. Its still too bad Blixa is gone from the band now.

"When I have seen your church go up in flames", is made even more disturbing when you understand the history of black metal. Then again, my co-workers don't know about the church burnings and they're still offended.

If I had to pick 20 albums to have with me on a desert island, Murder Ballads would be one of them. I think it's his best album.

if your bludgeoning someone to death while listening there may be a problem,if however your just imagining yourself in the situations on the record with people you know,say you murdering your lover or your boss then its probably ok.
either way it is indeed a great album,as are many others involving nick cave.so many in fact im not even gonna try and pick a fave,cept to say the earlier stuff he was involved in has memories of my teens attached so any favourites i did pick would be coloured by memories of debauchery and drugs and stuff anyway
