All this talk about UAD plugins, finally made me look into it properly...on some US sites, the StudioPak goes for $400. Which is maybe $650-700 NZ. :-o

Fcuk me! I thought it was going to be alot more expensive than that. A UAD card with quite a few supplied plugins is not really that big an expense considering what you get. I'm just used to s/w and computer h/w being comparatively expensive over here. If I throw in the Plate140 and another Eq, I can get pretty well everything I need for NZ$1000. Now that has surprised me.

Anyway...according to the UAD site, there's only the 1 official dealer in Australia...none in NZ - surely not? I've not checked out a couple of the local stores yet, but it looks initially like I might have to go direct to an overseas dealer. So anybody in NZ got one? Where'd you buy from? Is it cheaper to buy from somewhere like the US, taking postage into consideration (can't imagine it'd cost much to mail from the US - they're not heavy, after all - it has to be cheaper than importing Triumph car parts from the UK :hihi: )

I remember Uncle wotsisname was doing some deals on UAD cards a while ago. Anyone got a link to his site? Wasn't it JRR shop or something like that?

I dunno what put me off for so long - for all those plugins, actually it's a fantastic price. Should have done it ages ago.

Eric there will hook you up, and you should be able to get the "forum" discount.

I think the $400US is for the Project Pak, the Studio Pak typically goes for about twice that. All the various Paks are the same DSP card but with differing tiers, of bundled plugins. The Project Pak is the least expensive, but has the least amount, of included plugins. You can checkout the webpage, for all the specific details, on the various plugin Paks:

More details with audio/video demos, on all the plugins available:

If you are on a budget I think your best deal would be to get the new Flexi-Pak (just announced at AES last week). However, if you can stretch your budget a little further a Studio or Ultra Pak would probably give you the most bang, for the buck, but then with the Studio Pak you are limited to what plugins are included. For example, the Studio Pak does not include the EMT Plate 140. With regards to the new Flexi-Pak, for about 699US street, you basically get the plugins of a Project Pak, BUT you also get a $500US coupon redeemable, at the UA online webshop, to pick and choose the plugins you want to buy. All the UAD-1 plugins are included and installed with the latest 4.0 software update and include 14-day unlimited demos. Once you setup your own personalized account page, at the UA online shop, you download your authorization key, for all your licensed plugins. This key will unlock your plugins, for use, on your DAW.

Like the Project Pak the Flexi Pak comes with the 1176SE, Pultec EQ, RealVerb Pro, CS-1 Channel Strip and Nigel guitar effects processor. Then you have $500 to pick and choose what else you want. As a first time UAD-1 user, I would personally go for the LA-2A, 1176LN, EMT Plate 140 and probably put the remaining $53 toward either the Pultec Pro or Cambridge EQ or possibly stretch it out and go for the Precision Limiter.

Your best bet would be to first register, at the UAD-1 forum:

http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/

Then go to www.jrrshop.com and buy your UAD-1 there. Not only do they promptly ship overseas, they have great service and prices and in addition, as a registered UAD-1 forum member you get an additional 10% discount on your UAD-1. Which means you can get the FlexiPak for about $630US or the Studio Pak for about $810. With regards to the Flexi-Pak and the included $500 redeemable coupon you are essentially getting the equivalant of a Project Pak for $130US :-o

I don't think the Flexi-Paks will be shipping until November 1st though, do check the jrrshop to confirm expected availability.

Ah...yeah, I must have misread a page I was looking at...I thought $400 was a bit cheap for the Studio Pak.
Yeah, the Flexi Pak seems to be the way to go.

And the LA2A and EMT plate are definitely two of the ones I'd go for.

When you d/l the registration key...it doesn't have to be an online DAW does it? Only my DAW isn't connected, so I'd have to be able to transfer it across from this one to my DAW.

And a 10% forum discount sounds good - that'd pay for the extra plugin I'd need. Then start salivating for the precision multiband. :D

Who needs new dials for their old car?...but I need some of those plugins.

No, it does not have to be connected at all. The copy protection that UA uses is tied to the UAD-1 itself and not to any computer component or software.
But you will have to log in to setup your own personal account page to initially register your UAD-1 cards (it can be from a separate computer) and then download the authorization key to unlock your software @

I'm one of the many internet going folk who have bought from Eric @ jrrshop (UAD1 and powercore). After an initial credit card check the delivery was pretty quick between the US and the UK. Just check what import duty and tax charges you may be required to pay in NZ, it added approx 20% of the declared value here.

Great stuff...there'll be no holding me back, then. Thanks for the info.

It's good to hear more good feedback. I haven't heard anything bad about JRRShop - the opposite in fact. Which is reassuring. In fact good service is probably more important to me than price, for most things audio. So JRRShop will probably be my supplier, I think.

I can feel a purchase happening very soon :hyper:
