From somewhere round Sirius, apparently.

Interview yesterday in the Guardian tells the tale.

awfully funny... :?

Those of us from Alpha Centauri know that all these people claiming to be from Sirius are full of it.

I really like his music, have since I heard one of his works over 20 years ago. (that doesn't mean he isn't nuts)

If he came from Sirius to save the human race, he ain't making it.

Post

I did a presentation of him once, 'twas about one of his works portaying the biblical struggle of sadrach, mesak and abednego. Needless to say the message of it doesn't quite come across, unless you listen to it thru the dimensional warp machines possibly found in Sirius. (it still is a pioneering piece of electroacoustic music for a tape-edited childrens choir and a modular synth)

I can't help but prefer the way rastamen sing about that same story.

Ah, but perhaps if he hadn't come we would already be dead.

In any case, 'Gesang Der Jungling' and 'Stimmung' were pretty damn cool, I don't care if their composer is a total shwack.

Post

wait aminute...
you sure it said sirius and not swinton?

how come none of those techno-music celebs ever talk about Koenig, Klebe, Eimert, Beyer, Hambraeus etc.. or anyone else involved with German electronic music in the early 50s? You know what piece I really got into a few years ago as well (which was a slightly later electro piece that had nothing to do with Cologne as far as I know), Spiritus Intelligentiae Sunctus by Krenek (my spelling sucks but you know what I mean). How come nobody ever talks about that piece but then you hear all of these Warp records people going on and on about Stocky's Studie II or Kontakte etc.?

Post

I bet Krenek or Boulez or Babbit never told people they were martians. Don't get me wrong, I like Stockhausen's music a lot but I also like some of the other stuff coming out back then as well. I just notice that Stockhausen is the household name nowadays among the techy crowd.

Post

didn't Stockhausen decide to store all of his music in some crazy air-tight vault in the side of a mountain somewhere? I forget who told me that but maybe somebody can tell mr if that's just bs

You should see the bloke's tour demands. Especially the bit regarding his wives.

Anybody who coordinates everything down to the colour of his cardigan on any given day using a serial system can't be all bad. He probably picked the aforementioned wives in a similar manner.
