The thing that's kind of annoying is that if you bought A1 sometime back for say $250 and now upgrade for another $250 you, as a loyal IK customer, will have invested $500. Meanwhile, someone that just buys now for the upgrade will get the same two products for half the price (with the free upgrade). Kind of illogical?riley4reason wrote:hmmm. so it's $249.00 to upgrade from 1.0 full version to 2.0 full version?Vocalvoodoo wrote:From Amplitube.com.....
AmpliTube 2 will have an introductory MSRP price of $399/€329 for the full version and $249/€199 for the upgrades, valid till the end of the year. After release the price will raise to $499/€399 for the full version and $299/€249 for the upgrades. All customers of AmpliTube 1 full or upgrade, AmpliTube 1 LE and AmpliTube Live are eligible for the upgrade to AmpliTube 2 at reduced prices. Customers having registered AmpliTube 1 full version from September 1, 2005, will receive a FREE upgrade to AmpliTube 2.

That's not a very good deal, I bought the full version in March anticipating this upgrade, I would have waited had I known it would cost soo much. I have not used version 1 in any songs, my Jamstation blows it away. Oh well.

I don't think it's "illogical". If you buy amplitube 1 now you most propably won't use it at all if you get the new version for free, while people who have bought Amplitube 1 a year ago or so have had a goood use of it. I've seen these similar offers with other developers as well, and I really think that it would be unfair for people who have just bought the "old" product not to be able to get the new one for cheaper (or free) sice they won't be using the old product at all or very little if there is a possibility to get the new one.
A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

I bought Amplitube 1 back in March because of how great the coming upgrade will be, and I didn't use it, it's really not very impressive.DotNoir wrote:I don't think it's "illogical". That is how the musical instrument industry works though. If you want to wait until the END of a product's life cycle then you can almost always get a better deal. But, what is the value of having several years using a product over someone else who waits it out? Priceless.chrisby wrote:The thing that's kind of annoying is that if you bought A1 sometime back for say $250 and now upgrade for another $250 you, as a loyal IK customer, will have invested $500. Anyway, by comparison to other companies, you get more rewards for loyalty than practically any other in the software business. There are more crossgrade and upgrade options than I have seen from any other plug-in manufacturer for example.

To you it is not impressive perhaps but it HAS won 10 awards and sold thousands of copies so it must have impressed SOMEone.riley4reason wrote:I bought Amplitube 1 back in March because of how great the coming upgrade will be, and I didn't use it, it's really not very impressive.DotNoir wrote:I don't think it's "illogical". I think a more typical example of how the industry works is the recent Sonar 5 upgrade. A month or two before the release they offered new customers a $100 discount and the promise of a free upgrade when v5 came out. Basically, depending on where you bought from, this amounted to about $500 for versions 4 and 5. Previous owners of 5 could upgrade for $179.Squids wrote:That is how the musical instrument industry works though. RileySeriously, it is something done in this industry for years by everyone from Roland to Yamaha to software developers to sound developers to you name it.

Seriously, can you really think of another example where an upgrade (from a decent size sw company) essentially costed the SAME as what new customers were paying (even with a special incentive)? I can't. Sometimes it's close but never the same. Granted I've never worked in the music software biz but I have worked in the "regular" software industry for about 20 years and can tell you it just doesn't generally work that way.

Yeah, I can think of a few. I don't want to name which for political reasons (I do work in this industry so... occassionally I will be careful what I say
) Anyway, the upgrades are also available from retailers at a discount which is also something not every company does. So, I am sure you can get it for less. There are ways to get a good deal out of this for sure. Either you've had AT1 for a long time and enjoyed that and get a break on the upgrade (hey there also could have been no upgrade discount which I have also seen happen when a product is almost completely reworked such as this... imagine if it wasn't even called AmpliTube 2 but something else! It IS that different... not your typical "upgrade" with minor feature difference like yhou usually see) 0R you waited and didn't have it all this time but now have an opportunity on the launch of a product to get a good deal on it. I think everybody wins.
Anyway, IMO the best way to look at it is to see if something is worth it to you. If it is then that's really the important thing. If someone else got it for less for whatever reason (and there can be many... the particular shop, the timing of maybe a promotion or something like that etc.) is one of those things that just happens and one shouldn't let it bother them. But, that's just my 2 cents on the subject.

Not to beat a dead horse but this is exactly what I'm getting at... as it stands there is no break on an upgrade. The upgrade from v1 to v2 is $249, exactly the same price I can go out and get a totally new license for today through the free upgrade offer. As it stands there is absolutely no benefit to being an "upgrader" versus a customer that has never bought a thing from IK.Squids wrote:Either you've had AT1 for a long time and enjoyed that and get a break on the upgrade (hey there also could have been no upgrade discount which I have also seen happen.

Again, the regular price is twice that. So, as an AT1 user you get a nice discount on the product. Also, AT1's MSRP is actually $299. (not $249) and the MSRP for the upgrade is $249 (which means you can also get it from a store for less). But, even besides that, there are times where there is a window of opportunity for someone to get it as cheap as someone else or cheaper! What about when there are promotions like the one where people were able to get AmpliTube for FREE if they bought SampleTank 2? Those people REALLY get a great deal.chrisby wrote:Not to beat a dead horse but this is exactly what I'm getting at... as it stands there is no break on an upgrade. Look, this IS beating a dead horse. Like I said, if it is a good deal it is a good deal. It shouldn't matter what someone else could get during a particular window of time. As consumers we do the best we can to buy when we need to buy for the price we are comfortable buying at. AT2 is not just your typical upgrade it is a completely different plug-in and AT1 users are stoked to be able to get it for half price as an upgrade if you ask me. But, hey, if anyone doesn't think so then of course they don't have to get it! However, I think it is impossible for any company to please everyone with the deals that are done, promos, upgrades, crossgrades etc. It is just a good thing when it is even offered at all that way. So each person should take advantage of it to suit them best. If everyone ends up getting a great deal is that a bad thing? I really don't think so.

Guitar Rig 2 does looping!
"Modulate and Loop
Use the Loop Machine to create and play back loops on the fly: Layer different leads, riffs and rhythms on top of one another and gradually build up entire guitar sections. Tools such as the Crossover and Split offer unique potential while the Modifiers' ability to modulate any of the parameters in real-time far exceed the realms of conventional set-ups. GUITAR RIG 2's exceptional sound quality and features make it the ideal choice – perfect for studios and stages of all sizes or just jamming at home or on the road."
Does AT2 have this?

My concern is that you can upgrade from LE or Live for the same price as someone who bought the full version. I think that is unfair.

Actually it's less if you didn't buy the full version. You can upgrade from le or live for $199.00. It's $249.00 to upgrade from the full version that you bought back when they announced v2 and couldn't deliver it like thay said they would.
So now we pay for thier mistakes.
Thanks IK!!

Unfair? Who cares what someone else can get if for? Just buy it for the best price you can. What is the difference? Nothing. Is it a fair price to pay for the plug-in? Hell yeah it is!
