kind of like the waves diamond bundle @ 3800$

Post

but waves have comps, eqs, limiters, reverbs, delays, modulation, pitchshifters, noise removal, transient tools, de-essers etc with a nice and logical gui-design.

Post

Yeah, 1500 is just slightly excessive. That's right up there with the dude wanting $100 for the run of the mill trance synth.

I don't usually bitch on price, but this is atrocious!

a few plugins, a couple eq's and compressors, for $1500? native? !!! :o
Is there something going on such as the cost of RTAS licensing being passed on to the customer?

Post

I think that price is fair. Hell, if 1 of the plugins sounds as good as 1 of the hardware units, you're ahead of the game. I have the N EQ, and if I wasn't so into my UAD plugins I'd buy the whole set.

I'm grateful for guys like voxengo & psp & camel audio, but I can't imagine how they make any money.

The native thing is less and less of an issue -- I'm running 2 pcs now, and I just don't run out of power.

A pair of UAD cards and the equivalent plugins are a great alternative to the URS stuff, but I don't know that they're any cheaper really.

Anyhow. They're pretty specialized plugins, no reason everybody should buy them. But, if the N eq is any indication, they're worth what they cost.
Grist for the glamour mill.

I can't imagine how you can make money selling Eqs at $1000 a pop. How many could you possibly sell?

My guess is several dozens for sure. If it's really good people pay for it. Not Joe Poor but people with some more money.

By the way ...have you tried them ?

...mybe expensive but they are really good also, no? (That give you the final touch during your mastering process without doubt!) Sure if you take the bundle ...you're good for 1000's but one plug is set at 250$...expensive but not outrageous given the quality.

Post

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get 10 plugins for the $1500, yes? So that's roughly $150 per plugin. If these are as good as everyone says they are, isn't that worth it, at least to someone with cash to throw away like some studios do? Kjaerhus's GCO-1 costs $118, and most people refer to it as a bargain.

I think people are crazy when it comes to EQs and compressors, looking for things that matter very little in the grand scheme of things.

But this doesn't seem so outrageous given the market. I'm more shocked that people are willing to shell out $20 for that dreadful Cryosonic thing.

HI

I have used these quite extensively and don't think that even given the fact that 'quality/precision' takes an increasingly small step foward as the price point rises that they warrant anything approaching even the bundle price.

For the money I think the Sony Powercore eq is a wonderfull eq - certainly the best thing I have used so far: it's has the ability to raise a frequency without sounding harsh and generally sounds pleasant - I don't know if it uses some mild distortion, exciting, harmonics or even an analogue moddeled circuitry - but it does something sweet to most source material.

Character is an often used term that I find hard to hear in much software: especially proccesing plugs.

Eq is a very personal thing though - I also don't particularly 'feel' anything from the 'Waves' eq's either.

Thinking about it - how many people can honestly say that a particular eq add's a certain character (as opposed to simply adding or subtracting frequencies)to a sound source that set's it apart from something else?

EDIT: I felt similarly dubious about the Cryosonic but have found that if used VERY carefully it can produce a 'thickerning' and full bodied eq/full range excite effect on material that would be very difficult to achieve just by eq alone - I think it is a very usefull tool if used sparingly.

Flipper.

I'm convinced that if you put Posifopit under a Neve a like GUI or the Kjaerhus GEQ-7 under a Pultec GUI, people would be willing to pay a lot more money for them, and they'd get a lot more respect.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.
