simple plan? i don't know that anyone other than the typical brainless teenage girls ever thought simple plan was any good. over rated? anyone here over the age of 16 ever like that band at all? i guess you're right though, it does kinda suck that they've made a living out of recycling the same crappy insipid song over and over again

I haven't heard them though: who are they like? Give me an aural analogy -- are they like a Green Day-meets-Boyzone [since "brainless teenage girls" are mentioned a couple of times] type of a band?

Y'know, I always wondered why record labels don't push a punk Boyzone type of an outfit: it could be a very good marketing ploy. Wouldn't you agree?

They're like Green Day except 10x as prefab. With deep, original lyrics like:

Hmmm. Haven't we heard those lines [or lines to that effect] only about ummm... 10 million times before, as sung by various other outfits? All this alienation stuff turns kinda funny after being re-cycled for soooooooooooo long. That's why I like that Prince track where he says "Hell is in fashion". Post-Waters Pink Floyd has this track [Coming back to life] which indicated a healthy reversal to all this post-modernist/existentialist/alienation stuff.

Indeed. I'll take that over David Gilmour and his wife's attempts to emulate Waters' alienation themes! Gilmour should just go solo at this point.

No... I don't hate you... I agree to a point... I think he's a genius, but I do believe he is overrated...

However, I must admit a little memory of mine... I was introduced to electronica music by his album: "Oxygene 7-13"... no joke, this whole new world of music made me feel like I had a free teleporter to a whole nother world. I was rather young and dreamy, and I saw something in that album that I really admired.

I learned to hate that album later on... I started listening to more movie soundtracks and then started comming back to electronica... other stuff... trance-lover... trance-hater... trance lover... trance-neutral... anything-goes... video-game music-junkie... Now I compose some electronica...

Today, I really love that album Jarre made... I listened to it the other week... and especially compared to his other works, I love it. Personally, I know it's just nostalgia influenced by boyhood memories, but still...

Let me modify that last post of mine a bit. Alienation is, like love, a universal human emotion/condition and will be always around [well, as long as us humans are around at any rate]. And it will undoubtedly inspire artists all that while. However, inspired songs about alienation seem to be far less in number than their banal counterparts. That’s what I meant by my use of the word “recycle” in that post. No offence intended.

To BDuffy: Yeah, Waters can/could do some of the best alienation stuff, but then even he has some nice optimistic tracks on his solo discs [The Tide Is Turning on Radio KAOS; Each Small Candle on his In The Flesh live set].

Gilmour has already done two solo albums, I think. One is self-titled [David Gilmour] from the 70s, the other is 1984’s About Face. Plus is think I’ve seen him listed as a special guest guitarist on some Blues [Paul Rodgers’ Tribute to Muddy Waters] and Jazz [most probably Joe Henderson’s Porgy & Bess] albums. Great voice and guitars.

To Northern Fist: Man, Jarre is amazing. I haven’t heard too many of his albums but those that I have, I LIKE!

- i thought that track was just a joke track somebody put together for that conan obrien sketch. i can't beleive that's an actual song. that's hilarious
