None of these are overly obscure (especially the second one) but not particularly well known either.

Michel Banabila (especially his spherics one album)

Will Oldham (Bonnie prince billy, palace music, palace brothers etc)

Low (15 years of beauty and people still ask "who?")

Optiganally Yours (exclusively talentmaker is how ALL music should sound

)

It Bites - phenomenal, and yet the public knows nothing more than their one and only (and utterly non-representative) single

Don Preston and the Akashic Ensemble.

Surreally multitextured ambient electronic...Preston is an ex Mothers of Invention keyboardist...the 'ensemble' is him stretching the limits of (primarily) a lot of Moogs, a woman playing mostly electronic percussion, and a guy torturing a guitar.

Bloody freakin' brilliant. There's a bunch of 'live at a radio station' recordings floating around on the 'net. Seek them out and be awestruck.
