Getting 'symphonic' delay from camelspace, PSP, or spectron?

First off, I wonder if you all know what I mean by 'symphonic' delay. I think it's a TC term, but I don't know. It's the twinkly delay - not metalic, kinda of magic fairy dust -- you get in a lot of rack delay units for guitar. I think U2 uses them a lot lately, but I'm not a fan and couldn't name a single song.
If you know the 6th's song 'as you turn to go,' it's on the main vocal.
Anyhow, if you know what I mean, I wonder if you know a plugin that can do it. I have camelspace, the PSP delays, and spectron, among others, and you'd think I'd be able to pull it off, but so far, no luck.
Thanks.

Just sounds like a reverb to me on 'As you turn to go.' Presuming you mean the general sound throughout rather than during a specific instance of the song.
Camelspace has a reverb, doesn't it? Maybe just try a 1/8th note pre-delay into the reverb mixed 75% dry with a long decay?
Or did you have something else in mind? (I'll have to listen again to the 6ths song in full tonight to see)

With camelspace you could use a BP/HP filter, and open up the delay cutoff fully, and a bit of exciter too? I'm not sure the sound you are after really.
The most amazing delay I have ever had the joy of using is OhmBoyz by Ohm Force, with all those filtering options I'm sure you could get what you are after.

I'm going from memory on the 6ths thing -- maybe it's another song on that record, tho I think as you turn to go is the one. There's reverb, and lots of it, but behind it there's a twinkling, shimmmery thing that sounds to me like a delay.
I've seen guitar boxes have a setting 'symphonic' -- which is basically just a reverb with a twinkling thing behind it. It may be a yamaha thing, but I'm sure you can do it with the TC delays as well.
I find it pretty easy with camelspace, the psp delays, or spectron, to get a creepy or detuned chirping. That fairy-godmother thing I'm looking for eludes me.
Thanks for your help.

You sure it's not just a high pass filter in the delay line? Try it yourself by either using something like Retrodelay or by setting up a send with a high pass after the delay.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Could be. Maybe I'm passing too high, or with too much resonance. Tends to sound industrial and weird when I just hi-pass the delay.
As I'm thinking about, I'm really suspecting there's some kind of chorusing of the delays happening, and a bit of pan. I really should be able to cook this in spectron.

The PSP's can do this. Slight modulation of the delaylines feedback and proper imaging are in fact as you pointed out, the trick.
Cant point to a specific preset but with say the 84 start with one of the ping pongs. add a bit of wobble via a sinewave LFO. Real slight so it almost detunes but not much on say a 400-600 ms delayline you might sweep @2-3 ms.
Play with inverting the feedback and or the delay lines. Thish should get you in the ballpark.
Once in the park you may add the verb in the 84 as well as another instance. Possibly some short slaps, a bit of a flange etc which can actually help focus your source through the wash.
Play a bit and let us know how its going.
Also whats the source eq-ing the source and or the source through the delays to peak certain frequencies might also make the shimmer stand out where trying to eq the delay itself might loose it.

Hey, thanks. Had some time to really try today, and I couldn't get what I was looking for out of the PSP. It IS a very interesting delay . . . I should use it for more than just straight stuff. The sound I have in mind is pretty cheesey, I'll see if I can find a clip.
