i agree with your selection fully wholey and completely!!

1. Colossus - the most expressive bread and butter sounds out there
2. Rhino - synth that can do it all, CPU heavy
3. SFZ - quality access to soundfonts
4. GPO - good orchestra, not much between this and Silver apparently
5. Sonik Synth - a bit of everything, lots of synths, sounds OK.

You're not going to get any agreement here, it depends how you play, what you play, what you want from your VSTIs. These ones suit me - in fact if I had Colossus and Rhino alone I would be happy as Larry!

As you can see I'm a fan of rgcaudio. This is not a subjective analysis. These are simply my fav's in order of importance to me. I am positive other have there own fav's diff from mine which is perfectly fine. There are many fine and wonderful synths to be had in VST land these are just the one's I got stuck on. I don't mean that in any derogatory way.

Im gonna list freeware as the person who asks such a question would typically just open up a p2p program and search for them to d/l.

im using "-" instead of numbers because i wouldnt put any of these plugs over another. Also im listing ten because 5 is just too hard.
