I went under the band name NOISIA for a while (mid-late 90s), getting on the Mind/Body net-comps (rec.music.industrial) and selected for the Fifth Colvmn release "Best of Mind/Body".

And I was literally an "obscure musician" at the time, going under the nomme de guerre "DJ Obscure".

Not as obscure as another "punk-girl-band" from Osaka... Mummy the Peepshow! (But they're a little more "garage-punk" compared to the Yamano sisters whom are a bit higher up on the songwriting and musicianship totem-pole...)

And well know regionally, but absolutuley underappreciated;
Oingo Boingo (Weird Science was at once the best and worst thing that happened for them.)

The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo are the more obscure version of this awesome band!

I'll never forget how surreal it was to hear Mrs. Garret say the band's name on an episode of "The Facts of Life"!

Isn't that an extra on the "Forbidden Zone" DVD? I know there's a bunch of Mystic Knights footage during the Brothers Elfman interview but is that Gong Show appearance in there? Looks like I'll have to dig my copy out of storage and find out!

great band. "Flying Saucer" is a classic album of synth pop.

I'm also a big guitar-head so I have to give props to the greatest electric guitarist this world has ever seen, Allan Holdsworth. His southern-fried disciple Jimmy Herring is also great, and not very well known.

If you're ever in Philadelphia check the papers for a gig by my blues-playing cousins Trampled Under Foot. They played a four-hour gig here locally at Blayney's once with no opening act and everybody stayed til the end. They're going to conquer the world and you heard it here first! Here's the website:

He's a very underrated drummer, too. I think I like all the stuff he did- This Heat, Camberwell Now, and his solo stuff. He did a fantastic Camberwell Now-ish album with Nick Doyne-Ditmas which i bought for a friend but haven't found since.
He's one of My Heros.

That said, the early CN tracks were very Robert Wyatt-like. Listen to Pearl Divers and then to Rock Bottom and you'll hear what I mean. Then again, he could have been influenced by less talented people.
