Can anybody help me find these wind up sounds used in most of the toys, lullaby boxes, figurines, etc? I thought it would be one of the GM sounds, like musicbox or glocken, but it doesn't sound right to me. Is there some samples available on the net? wav or sf2?

someone did some music box samples here a while back,i think it may have been bela d media but my memory aint what it used to be...

When I was tinkering with these sounds in a track I found a Toy Piano sf2 (I think at Hamersound) that fitted much better than any music box sample. I think what people think of as music box sounds (like say in music by Sigur Ros) are actually something else...

I guess I can try that toy piano sf2... I was actually thinking more of what can emulate these sounds and how they were created, cause its just a metal shaft with bumps spinning and triggering a piece of tin foil with cut edges to produce the basic 12-note octave, right?

Get "red grand" from http://www.precisionsound.net - it's about as good as a toy piano can get. Check out the demo tune.

Incidentally, I love their Angelic Vocal Pads, too. It was a great purchase.

You're right, most music boxes I've seen are plucked rather than struck.

That's exactly what I was thinking, they are "mechanically" plucked. I was actually thinking about using that sound to make a little tune for my 7-month old daughter, and very surprised there is no sample available anywhere. Its almost like you need some kind of a physical modeling to re-create these sounds...

None of the links on the Bela D Media web page work (demos and kontakt format at least).

Fudge.

Indeed, it appears the only links that work are the EXS version and my Akai conversion.

If you download my Akai version, it contains the wav's and the .akp programs for Akai. Most soft samplers should convert this or you can try something like CDXtract. Or you could just create your own program file :)

I'll try and flag this up with Alan or Francis.
