Still o.t.:
you know, Verstärker, I'm listening to the fifth track in a row now and I really like your music - there's a lot of cool stuff hidden in there - but... - how to say it - ...it would deserve a different mix...

I hate to say it - and I'm only saying it as constructive criticism - but the songs sound a little overcompressed. I don't know if that's the m3u compression or if that was the intended effect.

That's how that style sounds I guess. That's judging from the really limited experience I've had with the genre (no pun intended
). I've heard tracks by others that sound like 0 attack, 0 release, gain +20, and some distortion on top. I liked number 4, it's kinda breaxy.
And to pretend to be on topic, I'm perfectly satisfied with GCO and saturated driver. Not to say anyone else should be.

hello guys, I'm pretty sure industrial stuff is intended to sound distorted and heavy. I love what the 1176 does to the sound imho but I still love my GCO-1. I forgot to mention that I also had tried the RComp by Waves and got similar results to the GCO-1 but not similar to the 1176.
I had requested a VERY fast attack feature in Crunchessor and Aleksey has just released the final version of that today (v1.7) so I'll try with that tonight too. The fast attack mdoe is mode "U", try it out !!
We still have yet to try matching with buzz compressors and neodynamin, so if anyone wants to give it a wack go for it. I'll try to post the closest sound I get tonight. To be honest (no UAD dissing intended), I liked the distortion that the GCO produced a tad better than the 1176, it was a little more ..... roundish, didn't introduce any high frequencies the way the 1176 does.
But again, the 1176 can't be beat for how it kept the dynamic range of the signal ... which is just amazing!
Cheers

hey folks, ok I have just tried Crunchessor with mode U and have come closer than the GCO1. Here is the sample of Crunchessor. I used a very soft GPP after it to catch any peaks over 0 db.
If you like the settings, I would be happy to provide them

i know this album does not have a very good mix - but keep in mind that some of the stuff is done more than two years ago. At this time i had not so much experience (=no experience)jens wrote:Still o.t.:

about mastering, proper use of compressors, eq and so on. And my UAD was far away.
If i ever get my new album or ep done you'll hear way better sound

but this "hype" is not just a "hype" - the UAD plugs just sound very good.kaufi wrote:ohh yes, the UAD "hype" - in my opinion the Kjaerhus GCO-1 the best you can get for so "low" money. thanks Kjaerhus!!
I never heard of anyone who regret it buying an UAD.
And it think it's not expensive at all. For 385 Euro
u get an DSP Card and several very useful and good sound plugs. The additional ones aer also not really expensive. Not cheap - but for the quality and useability they offer the price is more than justified.
But u're also right the GCO-1 is very good plug for a good price.

well that's the closest that native compressors go as far as I can see. I have tried all the good ones and the only one that came close was the crunchessor. I think the answer to your question is, there are no good native alternatives to the 1176.
