I'll give this a try.
Could you give us some tech spec ?
is there any latency ?
is it smooth, transparent, or more dratstic, brutal ?
is it aimed for maximizing, or pumping, or both ?
Is it an opto modelization, or vca ? valve compressor ?
Is it hard on cpu ?
made with synthedit ?
Are there any presets ?
thanx

No latency.

That depends to some extent on the settings you use.. but it can be quite brutal if you want it to be! It uses a simple hard-knee transfer curve..
Definitely not designed for maximising: its more for controlling the dynamics of individual channels within a mix than for full mix processing. Actually, my favorite setting for it so far is upward expansion on programmed drum tracks, to add more life ..is it aimed for maximizing, or pumping, or both ?
No modelling at all: it uses a simple linear transfer curve, and its character is determined entirely by the RMS detection and time-constant smoothing algos (which I developed more by ear than by theory!)Is it an opto modelization, or vca ? valve compressor ?
Is it hard on cpu ?
Pretty reasonable on my box, let me know how it goes on yours.. it won't run at all without an SSE capable processor however.
No, Synthmakermade with synthedit ?
Thats a joke, right? Are there any presets ?
I designed the GUI specifically to make setting it up as obvious as possible: the pointer by the threshold control displays the RMS levels; usually its best to set the threshold so the pointer bounces above and below it (ie: so you process just the peaks or troughs, not all of it all the time).
Any gain modulation is displayed by the pointer next to the gain slider, so its easy to adjust the make-up gain to remove big volume leaps when bypassing (if you leave the "auto" button pressed in it will attempt to set this for you, but it has to make assumptions about the input level so it usually won't get it exactly right.. but it does mean you can then adjust the ratio without having to tweak the gain every time).
Now adjust the time constants to suit the material.. for example: to add a little extra life & excitment to some programmed drums, set it to "expand" & "up", set the threshold below the kicks & snares but above all the rest, set the attack to 1ms, and a medium release, and play with the ratio. (Lower ratios tend to work best)
Presets are really not appropriate for dynamics processors IMO: if you can't set them up to suit the material you shouldn't be using them at all!

sidechain version crashes orion on opening
non sidechain version sounds nice tho, doesnt seem to push to hard if you get me more smooth than pumping.
will there be presets?

change from 'up' to 'down' - short attack, longer release...vurt wrote: sounds nice tho, doesnt seem to push to hard of you get me more smooth than pumping.

I think I begin to understand a few things... - have you been a feral child?

The SC version has 4 inputs: can Orion cope with that? It works ok in Tracktion..vurt wrote:
