guitar cable recommendations?

The thing that annoys me the most about guitar cables is that they break too easily... or half break and then make shed loads of noise... My attempts to fix them by resoldering normally ends in disaster and such a delicate cable that you have to stand very still in the most akward position possible to play without getting huge amounts of noise and the signal cutting out...

The net result is I have piles of cables that are all in some state of disrepair and each time i want to play my electic or bass guitar I spend a frustrating hour of "hunt for a working cable"...

So my only requirement is for a cable that doesn't break...
and I'm yet to find one of them yet..

I don't think that's what he meant jens.. I think he was just commenting that some metals conduct better than others. (but I might be wrong)

iron is a poor conductor in comparison to copper... I thought gold was the best conductor better than steel anyway that has more impurities..

so you probably wouldn't use iron in leads anyway (hence why the wouldn't rust)

Myth: Gold-plated connectors sound better than connectors made with tin or nickel.

Fact: Gold does not tarnish, and tarnished connectors can cause problems, but there is nothing inherent in gold that makes it sound better than a clean connection using standard materials. Further, it is possible for connections using dissimilar metals to oxidize and deteriorate more quickly than if the same metal were used. So, mating a gold plug with a non-gold jack could theoretically make things even worse! Moreover, connectors plated with gold often use a very thin coating because of gold's high cost, and that plating can wear off with repeated plugging and unplugging. Therefore, while it would be unfair and untrue to say that gold connectors are a bad thing, unless both connectors are gold they are at best a waste of money and at worst a potential for eventual trouble.

I think he meant that while steel conducts a bit better than gold steel is more prone to rust and thus gold ends up being the better solution in the log-run...

im not sure i can work out what you mean here?
do you mean "real" instruments like guitars et al or do you mean what you in fact say and that live music ie bands and artists on a stage or performing anywhere is barbaric? if so can you explain?

wel, 'steel' is wrong - usually they are made of 'nickle' and nickle chemically is a sort of iron...

cheaper ones are made of tin... - and nope, iron conducts beteer than gold!

doesnt matter tho cos as jens already said most jacks arent made of gold so even if your plugs are so what?a chain is only as stroong as its weakest link is i suppose the easiest way of saying it.
when it comes to cabling be prepared to spend some cash getting decent shielded cables but dont fall into the the more i spend the better,as long as theyre shielded and for live use quite sturdy you should be fine,but dont expect em to last forever.

and ben,as you go through your cables and find the shitty ones bin em eh?then you only have the one you want when its time.
plus always have a new one incase you do step on it,nothing worse than setting up for a take and snapping your only cable
