Finis and buzmaxi3 - the transparentest limiters?!

With some tests with TrackPlug5, PocketLimiter and Tubelimit, Elephant2, Finis and Buzmaxi3...
I get the best results from Elemental Audio Finis and the free Buzmaxi3 from Ken Watabe (buzzroom).
May be that the precision limiter from the UAD1 plays the same game as good or better (I have no UAD).
For the best smoothest colouring I tend to Elephant2 (in EL3 mode with linear curve shape = -1) and Tubelimit. But can be that there are others on top?

Alos try WWAYM Dynamix.
I have both that and Finis. Both of them color the sound somewhat, IMO, but in a very good way. Finis is the smoothest sounding limiter I've tried and I like to use it to take some of the "digital edge" off of things. Dynamix is brighter but sounds very analog to my ears. Finis is also the best I've tried at maintaining instrument separation in the mix after limiting.
Yes, I highly recommend Finis (though it's a bit pricey at $160).

Not entirely on topic, but you may want to check out the Loudness Maximizer Shootout. Saw this posted earlier on OSX Audio.

transparent limiter? An oxymoron right up there with clean distortion. But I'll play along. If not pushed much then I would agree Buzmaxi3 is pretty transparent. The timeworks mastering compressor would, imo, be in the colorful limiter category.
Frik, this sound stuff is so personal. If only everyone heard what I heard the world would be a better place. A more boring place, sure, but better.

perception: the stuff reality is made of.

The test is interesting! But I have not the fresh ears now to find a difference. But seems that some gives UltraMaximizer (L3) from Waves and the T-Racks limiter the better placesshamann wrote:Not entirely on topic, but you may want to check out the Loudness Maximizer Shootout. Hehe, thats funny while T-Racks (as I know) has much colouring as a tube simulation.
Thanks for the link, I will listen tomorrow with fresh ears. And will also look for the NWdyn...
