Like an idiot, instead of setting a path like c/programs/vst/horns, I set it to C/. So when I open cubase, it starts loading every thing that's on the c drive from folders to video then just shuts itself down. I uninstalled sx-3, reinstalled it then it did the same thing. Anybody know how I can start freash then set the paths again for the instruments?
Thanks

Here is how you can rectify this problem.

First take a back up of your registry. This is very important.

Now go Start > run In the box that comes up, type regedit and click ok.

Now,click on the the + sign at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go down to SOFTWARE and click the + sign to expand that one. In the software list, click on VST. Inside this one there will be two files on the right - double click the file called VSTPluginsPath. In the Value Data: part, put the path to your REAL VST folder.

That should sort out your probs :)

Thanks a million for responding and please excuse my computer ignorance but can you tel me how to "take a backup of my registry?"
I made it to vstpluginspath REG_sz C:\Programs Files\Steinberg\vstplugins exactly where you said it was and changed it to C:\Program Files\Vstplugins but it did the same thing. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall then reboot and see if that helps.

Run the Regedit app.

The choose FILE --> EXPORT
You can save your entire registry to a single file...
