oh and the thing i left out is that stupid itunes. I think itunes would have to be the most backward file managing software ever. i was in an electrical store the other day and overheard the salesman raving on about itunes to a prospective 16 yeard old buyer. "it's the worlds most advanced music managing software.." "world's best this and worlds biggest that" and all that crap... yeah well how about user friendliness? in my opinion it would be 10000% more user friendly if u didnt need itunes to put your songs onto the ipod. How about click and drag files in windows explorer from your harddrive straight into the ipod without all this file management bullshit? and why the hell does the ipod required software on your computer to run? the whole thing is insane

It is actually all quite well managed. But if you want to, you can drag and drop.mark77 wrote:oh and the thing i left out is that stupid itunes. Have you ever noticed that the majority of the mainstream product industry is pretty much composed of bullshit. Useless products that are a lot more expensive than superior products, yet.. people still buy them.
Is it because they don't know? Or are they that gullible that they think "oh, it's popular.. it must be good!"
It's like school - the popular kids weren't necessarily the intelligent ones, and a lot of the time they were downright ugly f**king people to know.

Tempting ... but I have seen other mp3 players I could use to (effectively) dj with for cheaper with a regular mixer. Pretty cool though

How the file is encoded when you import it is a setting in your preferences. Apple is going to promote what they think is best and set it to default.JamminFool wrote:hi,CrownRoyal wrote: BTW, it's EASY to migrate from iPod to another player. I changed a 15 Gig library to MP3 via AppleScript.
i didn't know this was easily done.
does ipod play the mp3's then? can you only convert the tunes you ripped from CDs or does applescript convert tunes purchased from iTunes store also?
where do you get applescript? does it come with the ipod?
i was under the impression that apple discouraged this. please correct me if i'm wrong.
thanks.
Applescript comes on every Mac. I did it via AppleScript because I didn't want to convert MP3's that I already had. I wanted it to skip them and just convert the non-MP3's. That way I could play them on my Windows laptop at work with MediaPlayer.
So, set your import preferences to MP3 and then right click on a sound file. You'll see a menu item that says, "Convert to MP3". Taking this a step further, make a playlist up and highlight them all, right click (I use a three-button mouse on my Mac) and batch convert them.
When I bounce a song to disk, I usually use WAV. Then I convert it to a MP3 via iTunes. Same method as above.
I'll look for a website for this for you. Be right back...

yes indeed, i couldnt agree with you more andrew vernon. It is amazing though the power of advertising, and hype and trend and fashion. The ipod is so damn popular coz it managed to penetrate pop culture. It managed to become so mainstream that you simply are not cool enough if you dont own one. yes its not the best but it is the coolest. The thing is only people that look outside the quare realise what is happening. 95% of the population are sheep. stupid braindead sheep. which is both a blesing and a curse. Its a curse, because as an intelligent person in a sea of morons you stick out and feel lonely, but it is a blessing because if you're smart enough to take advantage of all these morons, well.. thats how you get rich.. isnt that right apple?

I agree.Gridlocked wrote:It is actually all quite well managed. But if you want to, you can drag and drop.mark77 wrote:oh and the thing i left out is that stupid itunes.
Apple released iTunes for Mac. They later released it for Windows. I use iTunes to convert my bounced songs to several formats. It's quite handy. I also use it to manage my audio books, PDF documents, moving data, etc.
I think the Apple hate thing is immature behavior. Hey, if you don't like, don't buy it. Done deal... move on. There's so many underminers in here that it's comical. "I hate this, I hate that..." They're living proof that marketing WORKS. You feel left out because you don't have one. They're in denial. Very, very small frightened minds. Ha! TOOOOOO FUNNY!
It's just a tool. Get over it. It would be like me bitching that z3ta+ is crappy because there's no Mac version.

what i hate about itunes is that i comes with quicktime - no way to avoid it - i already have Wm10 (dont want) - itunes (dont want) so that i can use winamp (which i do)
it's just a nightmare of configuring for what exactly
and don't get me started on real player

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

yes i love my ipod, and the only thing i have against itunes is that it comes with quicktime, and takes too f**king long to load up (even on beefy G5s!)
when itunes has loaded up though, it's great for just playing music - the search is instant, and i just find it quite logical and nice
the only thing that's a bit crap about ipods is that lately they have been changing too fast - barely a few months after the 'photo' was released (and quickly replaced the regular ipod) now they've released the video version.. i would be very pissed if i bought one of the photo models...
blasphemy is a victimless crime

But some of us just like ripping the shit out of the endless supply of fashion victims and their built-in obsolescent 5 minute status symbols.
Oops - Cat among the pigeons.
Rule of thumb - Wait at least until the release of version 2 before you buy anything.
1. Because version one is full of bugs.
2. Let the fashion victims buy version 1 and act as the guinea pigs.
3. The less people who buy version 1 the quicker the price drops.
4. The less people who buy version 1 lengthens the time it takes them to get rid of the stocks of version 1 and delays the release of version 2 - giving the victims more time to discover the bugs in version 1.
Ho-hum
