fl studio/Midi in from host

just purchased this, so I'm just learning it. Everything seems entirely intuitive, and I have had no issues except with one thing, which I have simply had no success with.
I am trying to send midi note information through the host (have been using Bidule, but also tried with Tracktion 2)into fl studio to trigger an instrument there. Midi is working otherwise - I can send midi out into the host from fl studio. Sound is working otherwise - when I play the step sequencer, the instruments play correctly (both the internal ones and vsti instruments). I have messed with the midi settings and the controller instrument values, but this doesn't help - I can get midi from the host to register in the gui - the activity light shows activity, but I get no sound. I can see the little keyboard playing along gloriously - if I click it manually, it makes sound, but midi from the host does not produce sound. I have messed with midi channels to no avail.
I have no problem with midi in using the stand alone version.
So, quite obviously I am missing something quite basic? But I haven't found anything in the documentation yet that sheds any light on what may be wrong here. Can any users disabuse me of my ignorance?
Thanks,
Gene

I've never needed to use FL as a plugin so I can't help.

I've never tried it but this may help. There is a tutorial at http://www.flstudio.com/tutorials under the Advanced link about using FLStudio as a plugin in Cubase SX3.

Well, it wasn't user error. No tutorial would fix it. I confirmed by searching their tech forum that there was a bug that caused this to happen. (pretty serious, imo). Midi in from host would animate the gui, but no audio...chardin wrote:I've never tried it but this may help. Fortunately I downloaded the very latest version 5.0.0.f or something, and it is fixed. I'm surprised that more people haven't run into this - I guess most people don't use fl studio this way.

I am now running into the same issue trying to record notes from the host into the piano roll. Finally got a reply from their tech support. First reply was essentially...'oops, I can't either. I'll check to see if this is a known bug'. Then I got a reply telling me to turn on the record automation switch in audio options. Ok - but that still didn't work. I'm getting the feeling that very few people have used this as a vsti much, or just don't record midi with it?
