See that's funny; we got Event PRS 6s at work and they just hurt my ears. And everything I mix on them sounds messed up on anything else. They're just too flat for me, I'm probably just used to that 'consumer' curve now.

I will say that everyone I've listened to the Behringer 2030As with has picked them out as the best in that price, sounding remeniscent of the Mackie HR series. Believe it or not.

Not.

Oh yes, let's have a good laught at Bduffy...

To recap: I don't think Truths sound like friggin' Mackies. That's ridiculous. My buddy and I both noticed a similarity in character, and the rep said that they are, in fact, modelled after the HR monitors.

The Mackies sounded so good, they made me want to cry. The Behringers sounded good enough to be Mr. "Right Now". That's all I'm saying.

Post

Sorry. Didn't mean to torment you. Listening to 'budget' monitors is torment enough.

Thing is, I can't stand the Truths or the Mackies or most monkey box speakers marketed as budget monitors. Nothing makes me cry under $3K a pair. Or everything does. Dynaudio BM15A is a start, then I can start crying tears of joy.

Hmmm. Mackie!...monkey box!...I see you feel strongly about them! Fair enough, that's how I feel about Events, and everybody thinks they are the bee's knees.

I'm currently mixing on a bloody bookshelf stereo, so it's really nowhere but up for me. I figure I'll be ready for the $3k monitors when my studio is.

You're not serious, are you? You really use the Bass/Treble controls? Why? I know from my MA-10's that you have to keep the volume under control, but thanks for the warning.

well I had a hundred quid or so spare so I grabbeD some edirol MA-15D'S, which I guess are similar.
I've heard that they're ok - & they'll certainly beat monitoring exclusively on my headphones (which are quite nice akg's that cost at least as much as the speakers).
Maybe one day i'll put my hand in my pocket & get some real 'pro' monitors (doubt it though)

Post

MA-15s are nice, the last tradeshow i was at Edirol was showing those and were claiming they had the best sound in their micro monitor line. but i still think the 20s are the best. BONES - yeah, i do, mostly because if i don't turn that bass up, i really can't hear much bass. i guess it depends on what style of music we're talking about. when i watch movies or play classical music or whatnot, yeah i put them flat. but my preferred style of music is techno and industrial, and the 20s dont stand a chance getting the bass right :/

still i love them as DVD/TV speakers.

@ bduffy - im willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, as my experience with the Truth monitors was shortlived (a couple in-store demos w/ a few different CDs). sorry if you took offense to that ;)

i still think the Alesis M1 Active MKIIs are the best monitors in the $400 and down range. especially for people producing bass-intensive music.

It's cool, it just looked to me like, "let's scoff at Bduffy cos he's dumb enough to suggest that shitty Behringer monitors sound exactly like Mackies", which was not my point at all. No harm done anyway and thanks to both of you for clearing it up.

Yeah, I mean, don't take my word for it. You can never talk anyone into liking a monitor cos we have such varying expectations. For all I know, my idea of bass sounds nothing like yours. I just remember from a couple of listening sessions walking out with the impression that the Truth's were worth it.

And I can't remember the Alesis M1's, but I'm sure they had them. Tell you what, I'll go over to the store ASAP and check 'em out. If you like them, they can't be too bad!

Post

m1mk2s  i had them and i dont miss them but i dont hate them either. it's very easy to listen with a full warm bass and smoth highend
but the techno curve is a bit too deep, and the imaging is not good eventho thru the warm bass body insturments can sound big but can't see them clearly in the mix.
compare to EVENT studio, most of their monitors all have have alot of midtone and not enough bass for my taste, especilly the mid bass is alway low even on their 8in ones which result with a bit hallower sounding, but some would say more midtone is good so that you can mix the main part of the music better
with less mid bass so that the bass wont sound boxiz of mudy when mixing~ so what do u like?

Behringer 2030As remeniscent of the Mackie HR series  actaully all the HRs sounded quite differnt...
and persudo effect thru inexperienced and thru the web/for sale reason/for the sake of BS/or maybe some bathch of Truths are really that great!..... 2030 or 2031 sound as good as 824 i heard that from a studio that was forced to sell some of their equipement (inclouding 824 for a used truth) for $$

but anyway with 100 dollar budget, and you want to mix dance music AKG headphones will never give you the bass~ 100 dollar "sutdio" speakers ... better get decent multi media speakers with a sub so that you can hear the bass

these are my opinions with no offence

Jesus Christ I regret saying that. Dude, it's just a general impression I'm talking about. Totally unscientific. I would never compare 2030's to HR624's. Never. Argh!!!!

There, much better. I'm not sure what else you're getting at there...you're recommending multimedia+sub for under $100? That's a much lower price range than we have been talking about.

Post

^_^"... opps i didnt read the whole thread, i tought the budget is about 100 dollar ...... :smack:

i dont really know what to recommand coz it's all about like and dislike but at least check out the Samson Ribon5/6 and compare them to truth and maudio ,yorkville or others at the same price range in store
but if you are trying to get that Edirol speakers... you should better just get a multimedia 2.1 or M-Audio StudioPro 4/Studiophile DX4 and cheaper
but if that digtal input on edirol will make you happier than go for it~ coz you need something that will make you feel satisfied inside and it's color is what u like better than others at the same price range~
see my moto~

no way! the samson ribbon models are shit! i'm sorry to say that, because they had such cool marketing and press releases, but i tested them extensively and they didn't compare to anything else, even the crappy Tapco monitors they were sitting next to. stay away from Samson, imo.

the Studiophile DX4s arent much better than MA20Ds... but they can handle more volume/bass before distoring and cracking up. they're fun to DJ with in your home.

PS i agree about the M1MKIIs, dxl. they aren't pro by any means, and you can be deceived by the excessive amounts of bass from those 6" subs. but, they don't tire your ears, they have great mid and high end, look great, built well, and have a great legacy behind them (the M1 series is quite famous). i trust Alesis's track record before someone like M-Audio or Samson.
