Sorry - couldn't resist :)

Seriously, from what I can tell one of the major advantages of Spectrasnonics' products is that they are produced with a high level of accouracy. But I haven't actually understood what makes the technical - i.e. not meaning the human factor - difference between a GC-Loop and a REX-File. You've said, GC-Files could be played in a wider range of tempos than REX-Files. Is this done with some sort of additional time-stretching or is a GC-Loop referring to a bunch of varying audio-files from one original loop, which are chosen from the software for the desired manipulation, e.g. a different tempo? Could you give a more precise hint or is this a company secret?

Also, I watched the RMX video yesterday and I was wondering if it is possible to set up different groups for imported REX-Files to manipulate the different sounds of a loop like snares and such.

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

I would think the main trick in making a sliced loop work in a variety of tempos is to extend each slice's decay in a non-artificial sounding manner. That way you won't get the typcal staccato sound to a sliced beat when you play it far below its original tempo. To get good results when speeding it up, smart voicegroups should do the trick. I'm just thinking out loud.

Yeah...commando training! ;-)

I can't tell you exactly all the ways that we achieve this result, but I will say that it's mostly in the preparation of the files...the playback is fairly standard....although we do have a few tricks in the engine to help special cases and really difficult ones. The vast majority of it is that we take a huge amount of time and careful testing to achieve these results. The tools and techniques we employ are less important than that we have a specific end musical goal for each loop....and we don't release it until it reaches those standards.

Yes....all the Edit Groups work on imported REX files in the same way as it does in the core library and SAGE Xpanders. So if you slice something well in ReCycle, all of the cool stuff that Edit Groups can do in RMX is available for your own audio as well.

Nope...gotta use ReCycle to create a REX2 file.
