There used to be these pocket cassette-players back then, bigger than a walkman but still pretty portable. I guess they used these. I'm pretty sure I read it was one of Chris Carter's contraptions, he was the techy of the bunch.
Could be GPO attributed it to Sleazy because GPO and Carter used to be on less than speaking terms.
Hmmm. Maybe I could see if I can track down the article, but it's semi off-topic (and I'm kinda lazy tonig^W^W^W^W it's kinda late), so I won't. Tonight, at least.
