Are you being serious with this thread? Or are you just trying to elicit another 'my host is better than your host' argument?
yes, i'm serious. i just wonder why ppl choose hosts. i've learned much from this already
That's fair... I guess I just get a little confused with posts I've seen recently with the header: 'Convince me that... x is better than y'... or, 'convince me that I should buy...'

Anyway... I did download a free version of Tracktion that was offered a while back, and it seems pretty solid (as far as sequencers go). Not sure I'd be willing to switch to anything else if I felt comfortable with its workflow... (I have no idea about version 2 though).

Oh, you mean like Faulty Towers? About as subtle as a flying mallet!

I don't know who said British humor(humour) is subtle, but it is in my opinion "dry" humor. Not sure of the exact definition of dry humor, but it seems to be sarcastic, often said with a straight face. I suppose Benny Hill would be an exception(maybe) but not Faulty Towers, where many of Basil's remarks, if taken out of context, would not be funny, just mean.

Really not meaning to be uppity at all, but to find out what other sequencers offer, simly read the feature lists in the "hosts" listings here at KVR, on their websites, in magazine/online reviews, and try the demos.

For my part I used Tracktion as my main host for about 18 months, having previously used Cubase SX1. Since the release of T2 I have had major problems with Tracktion on my specific system, which caused me to look elsewhere out of necessity. I already owned Ableton Live 2, which I had upgrade to Live 4 but not had much joy with.

Forced by circumstance to spend a bit longer getting to know Live properly I basically fell in love with what I consider to be it's more productive and quicker workflow, as well as its fantastic stability and the many features it offers which Tracktion simply can't compete with.

I could give you a great long list... but suffice it say that I find Ableton Live 5 to be much more enjoyable, I haven't had a single problem with it, and ultimately I find it a more MUSICAL program to work with (for me!).

Every few months I seem to go through a phase of "software hunting" and ask myself the same question (without voicing it).

For me the features, up to a point of course, are only secondary. If the software fit my way of thinking is the primary concern. If, when demoing software, I say or think "what a stupid way of doing this" a whole lot (and when I demoed Cubase, as an example, last year, I even started to say it out loud without anybody but me present in the room; that's bad), then I figure the software is not for me, period.

I've been with Tracktion for music making for over a year (hell, 1 1/2 year already, how time fly) and haven't said "what a stupid way of doing this" out loud yet, so I'm sticking to it even though it's certainely not perfect.

Have you started saying "what a stupid way of doing this" when using Tracktion? If so, it might be time to look for a replacement.

Another useless Trackion thread. No wonder I hate this app so much.

Why do you bother replying to it then, or come to think of it, why are you even reading it?

heelloo :) I'll share my thoughts on this. I did dive quite deeply into Tracktion before purchasing Cubase SL3. There are so many things I do love about Tracktion, but the things that made me choose Cubase are...

- I find the GUI more logical ... even though Tracktion came really close in this regard.
- More powerful MIDI editing.
- Faster graphics (I found Tracktion to be kinda sluggish on my system).
- Better audio features (audio editor, powerful editing of fades .etc)
- Reason was really slow when running in ReWire with Tracktion.
- I dislike the Tracktion look / colour scheme a lot ! It just doesn't look all that nice to me. And yep, I did try modifying the colours, its generally the look of the program I don't like.
- I enjoy having a mixer, I don't like thinking of production & mixing as one stage, most pro studios do this in 2 stages and that's generally how I have done it. I get a rough mix first, and then touch up in the mixer.
- I love the audio pool sooooooooooooooooooooo much :)
- Even though I own Tracktion 1 that came with my audio card, I was not offered any upgrade offers, what a rip off ... people that got the free version got a discount if I remember correctly.
- Non-responsive developers, Steinberg aren't the best in this regard either, but they are definitely active in their forums and do help people out and take bug reports seriously.

Reasons I strongly considered Tracktion over Cubase...
- Better Rewire routing options
- Reordable inserts and powerful modular editing of effects.

My 2 cents, I love Tracktion, but I prefer Cubase personally.

An old and venerable hill tribe in Afghanistan still use hardware on alternate Tuesdays to perform ancient ceremonial musics.

Or so I've heard! :P

I like my host better because I don't have to use TapeIt to get properly rendered output! And bugs get fixed in days, not months. Oh, and new features turn up on occasion, too, like little presents!

Don't get me wrong, I have a T2 license, but on my machine it's not the most reliable piece of software I've ever used. My "other host", despite being a BETA, is more reliable *for me*.

Horses for courses.

Supposedly this is fixed a couple of months ago. I never had the issue myself, but just so you know.

And truly, you have a host that updates bug fixes more often than every 3-6 months, cause that's about the track record I see with Tracktion? I've used it for just slightly more than 1 year, and there was at least 1 version 1 updates in that time, and now, 3 versions of T2 - original, quick update, and now the one announced this week October 05. That's 4 releases in about 13 months time.

Now, not ALL of the known bugs are fixed, but they do seem to work on it.

So, which one updates more quickly than that? eXT seems to come to mind, but I've stayed away until it seems like I really need it.
