Hi,
This is my first post in this section of the forum.
I'll would like to do some accoustic guitar for slow/medium rock stuff, but sometimes I would like to them in Drop-D ...or possibily in Drop-C...is this possible to emulate in ManyStation?
By the way, the ManyTone website seems to be unresovable. IS there some congestion on the domain server?

Some of the Guitars are mapped down lower to a D or even a C note. The existing ones in ManyStation are not sampled that low though ... just stretched to those lower notes. (Still they work for some drop tuned stuff)
But... Some of the new guitars we are doing, including a 12 string, are actually sampled that Low. This 12 string is included in our upcoming ManyGuitar. We drop tuned and properly sampled the lower notes.
As for tuning the whole guitar dropped .... It gets messy to map on a keyboard ... but with the dropped low notes you can then do what you want using programmed chords of your own etc.
We will also be sure to sample any and all new sets we do with Drop Tunings. So expect more of this from us in the future too.
As for the website... It was down for server maintenance for a few hours but it is back up now.
Thanks
Paul

So, are you saying the 12-string guitar will have those low notes...possibly Drop C emulation?
YOur website is still down at this time.

Yes it does have the drop tuning .. D for sure which will stretch down to a C. I will see about sampling an actual Dropped C but not sure I can promise that before release. But the set does have a dropped Low D note as is right now. It is mapped to Low C as well.
The website has been up since i posted before you earlier, so not sure why you still don't get it to load there. Did you try refreshing the page?
It is loading fine here at the moment.

Tried another browser. Still down. I think it's not able to resolve your name into an IP address (Fault on the domain server?)manytone wrote:HiJess wrote:So, are you saying the 12-string guitar will have those low notes...possibly Drop C emulation?

I use my company'e DNS server and this is what it gets: -
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
But, when I just it to my ISP's DNS, then it works.
Must have been the other DNS server was slow to refresh that ManyTone is no longer down.

Hi Jess
I said before that we would have a drop D for sure, and that maybe we would sample an actual Dropped C note.
I can confirm now that we did sample down to a Drop C with the twelve string. And it was all done in the same session as well, so look forward to a great alternative 12 string set with Drop D and C Tuning included with ManyGuitar. (Low E string Drop Tuned to D and C, not pitch stretched, actual samples of the notes)

Just a couple of questions: -
1. Is it going to be a VSTi software? Do I need Soundfonts to run them? I would like to host on Cubase.
2. Can I play chords like Cadd9, Em7, etc via a MIDI keyboard? If so, is it via some sort of keys combination?

Yes it is a VSTi that comes with bundled Sounds.
For most sets there are just the raw notes sampled so you have to play or program in your own chords. But there are a few sets included that have Major Chords or a Blues / Rock 567 chords ... But that is from the Telecaster not the 12 string. The 12 string is notes only so you just need to play or program your chords.
Greg and I and also ToTc have been using the plain note sets for chords and it has proven to work very well.

Hey Paul
How about dropped to A#? My favorite tuning for a 12 string (if it will take it- most won't hold their pitch) is to tune the whole thing down two whole steps and then drop the C down to A# (the old Steve Miller trick from his pre- Joker days)

Hang on.. maybe I've got this wrong... but are you saying you've just sampled the dropped note (drop D for example) and not done an entire preset for a drop-d guitar? As in, have you sampled all of the strings of a drop-d setup?
I only ask because dropping strings imparts a lot of tonal changes onto the other strings, even though they are still at the same pitch they were in standard. Sampling just the dropped string isn't going to give you a realistic drop-d (or drop-A# for that matter) sound.
If I'm just misunderstanding then ignore me

Andrew
As it proves difficult to map a fully drop tuned guitar for proper use on a keyboard or piano roll, we only dropped the Low E in this particular set. It will give you a pretty realistic sound, much better than just pitch shifting the notes down anyways. That was the idea here, you can still play drop tuned chords and progressions this way at least and still have the 12 string for regular stuff too. One day i may do a fully dropped tuning but i have yet to figure out a good mapping for this. Also we Isolated each string as best we can for sampling as you really need to do this or else samples just get too noisey with other strings rumbling ... Again this would be a different set for me to try at another time, I can leave the other strings rumbling a bit ... As i said ... Guitar takes alot of different sets to achieve all the results you guys want. We will though have more sets in the future to expand on the already huge package.
Ew ..... sure ...first everyone wants a drop D ... then its a Drop C ....now you want what???
hehe sorry ...not in this set anyways, I am trying to get it released but i keep adding stuff

When you say mapping, I assume you mean across the keyboard? I don't think that's an issue. It's just that I can't imagine you'd get a realistic dropped sound.
Ok. You've got an instance and you want to play in drop-d. You play the dropped-D sample, but the rest of the samples you use are from a standard tuned guitar.
I think those standard samples will stand out from the drop-d one, because of the texture and tonality of their sound.
But hey, I could be just being overly pedantic

As said above Andrew...
You cannot achieve it all with 1 set. But to me, a Guitarist for 30 years plus, it sure works and sounds great for a lot of stuff and leaves you a normal tuned 12 string to boot. I don't think there are many sets out there that actually drop the E this low ... It's just a different set we wanted to do. But it ain't the end all. That will never happen with 1 set.
We hope to cover more alt tunings in other future sets ... Till then this is one cool set and it sounds Fantastic for some drop tuned sounds.
I can assure you no notes "Stick Out" and that it is still a very nice sounding and very playable SampleSet.
