We tend to forget about console..

You tell me is under the radar Host/plugin a sleeping killer?

I seem to remember someone mentioning some limitations with it that put me off.

Well, I use it. I wrote one of the few reviews that are here.

It's very solid and handles badly behaved plugs remarkably well :)

It does only offer routing tho' which many want that little bit more.. Still it's served me well.

I might download it at some point.

But can it do anything that EnergyXT, Audiomulch and bildule cant??

What i need to do is to get more into bildule really. I think a combo of eXT, AM, and bildule would be an amazing set up

Use DXi plugins...

well, it doesn't have generators, etc, but it does ship with a midi pattern player. If you want to mix VST and DX, then it's ideal, other than that you might find eXT the more adaptable host.

It suits my needs very well, and doesn't offer me more than I need, which I sometimes feel with eXT. Depends what you are after at the end of the day :)

Try automating 20 parameters simulanouesly in mulch without a bottle of acedaminiphin and then you'll get my props (oh it doest count if your display is a 40' plasma)..

Console is great, it allows to use DXi on SX, i think it doesn´t work well when there is a plug which introduces more latency than expected, as waves or UAD.

As I don´t have the time these days to try Console and as there isn´t anything written about my concern in their web manual: Can Console host record its audio output to a wav-file? This feature should be obvious, but I´m surprised that they don´t write this in the Console specs.

no, you can't - you need to use a capture device of somesort - like tobybears channel grabber, etc.

My feeling is that Console came out of an expermiental design to hook up VST/DX quickly and easily to create a session, and they got carried away and make it export itself as VST/VSTi/DX/DXi for a laugh. When it came out, there was little else that did what it did in that respect. Other hosts have overtaken it in terms of features, but it has never desired to be a host which did those things, so the design brief has remains remarkably simple.

But something like that would be useful natively, it has to be said!

That´s really disappointing. I didn´t try channel grabber until now, but I think inserting e.g. TapeIt just before the audio out component should also work.

Well, I think its handy to have in your toolbox. Don't forget you can create whith some freeware elements(DXi, VSTi, DX and VST) very complicated modular synths. Is there any recent updates? You never know, Console might grow into a recorder and sequencer setup. The tracker Psycle is similar, though you don't have the audio tracks. Actualy, Rocktaves Delta has the audio tracks and the plugin builder. Yes, Traction can, but no DX.

EnergyXT is very good, but I havn't got around to getting it yet, my toolbox is overflowing now, but it is a must get.
